We recap the Netflix K-Drama series D.P. Season 2 Episode 6, which contains significant spoilers and explains the Ending.

The last five episodes go by in a breeze. This Korean Drama is painfully underrated and underpromoted. As we ponder the Season 2 finale, we have to wonder what we can do to get these stories out to an even wider audience.

The finale of Season 2 leaves a lot to be solved. Will justice and the truth prevail, or will the cogs of the system find their way to cover up the facts? Let’s recap

D.P. Season 2 Episode 6 Recap

What did Jun-ho do with the USB stick?

Episode 6 of Season 2 opens up with Jun-ho facing an old, wicked acquaintance he once worked with, Park Sung-woo. The man wants revenge. The military has caught jun-ho. However, he has fooled them with an empty USB stick. He’s transferred the contents to another device and hidden it from them.

Jun-ho is desperate for the truth to win.

What deal does Ho-yeol offer the military?

The military is frustrated after Ho-yeol and Beom-gu try to help Jun-ho escape. They see their actions as a risk to national security. They’ve been asked to stand down and await orders.

However, Ho-yeol has other ideas and discharges himself from the military early and becomes a civilian once again. He decides to expose the military and prove that their leaders are corrupt. Compromised, Ho-yeol asks his superiors to suspend the arrest warrant and operation, and in return, he will get them the USB drive before the trial against the government.

Meanwhile, Jun-ho manages to use his handcuffs to attack Sung-woo as he’s driving, forcing him to crash the car. Jun-ho escapes, leaving an injured Sung-woo behind.

The trial

Beom-gu tells Ho-yeol that they must find the USB drive and Jun-ho before the trial begins after learning Jun-ho escaped his escort. He believes Jun-ho will be at the trial regardless.

The day of the trial against the government arrives. There’s tension between the military lawyers and Attorney Seo Eun immediately. Seo Eun needs to find time and wait for the USB drive to show up.

The state argues that the Kim Ri-ru incident was unavoidable as it was not anticipated, so it was difficult to provide immediate care. Seo Eun argues that there is a duty of care and that Corporal Jeong’s life could have been saved if a quicker process was followed. However, the state’s response is brutal, pointing out that Ri-ru used fourteen rounds of ammunition.

Why is Captain Lim Ji-seop called as a witness?

In response, Seo Eun calls a witness to the stand — Captain Lim Ji-seop; stating that he was an officer directly linked to the events—a straightforward delay tactic by the attorney, but the judges approved.

Ji-seop talks about the logistics of helping soldiers at this particular military base that’s remote and near the demarcation line. He argues that they have to wait for orders and permission before proceeding. He claims they shouldn’t have to wait for orders before saving lives, and abused soldiers shouldn’t wait for help before they have a psychotic breakdown. It’s a speech with plenty of condemnation but not enough without the USB drive.

Why does Sung-woo want to arrest Jun-ho again?

Jun-ho shows up outside the court, and Ho-yeol is glad to see him; he asks for the USB drive. Ho-yeol is about to detain Jun-ho, but then Park Sung-woo shows up, claiming this is his business. He’s been ordered to get the USB drive by the government.

Jun-ho and Sung-woo fight. Sung-woo is desperate for revenge, strangling Jun-ho as hard as he can before punching him repeatedly. Jun-ho apologizes to Sung-woo, which makes his enemy angrier. Eventually, Ho-yeol intervenes, stopping Sung-woo’s brutal assault.

Ho-yeol again asks for the USB drive, but Jun-ho refuses and tells him he doesn’t have it.

D.P. Season 2 Ending Explained

Who had had the USB drive?

Beom-gu then arrives at the courthouse and hands Seo Eun the USB drive — he had it all along. Flashbacks reveal that Jung-ho acted as bait as a distraction so they could get the USB drive to trial without any intervention. Ho-yeol is angry at Jun-ho, believing they have destroyed their lives.

What is the outcome of the trial?

Due to the overwhelming evidence on the USB drive, the government is acknowledged to be liable for the deaths and injuries during Kim Ri-ru’s attack on his colleagues, and compensation will be made. Judgment on the acknowledgment is delayed.

This acknowledgment is powerful, showing how fighting against the system can be emotionally distressing, but it’s worth revealing the truth.

Why is Beom-gu arrested?

Due to being a whistleblower for bringing the USB drive, Beom-gu is arrested. Before he is escorted away, he gives his well wishes to Jun-ho and Ho-yeol and asks them to work hard as soldiers.

Later on, Beom-gu is visited in prison. He tells Captain Lim-seop to look after the D.P. soldiers. Lim-seop offers his gratitude.

As the episode ends, we see Jun-ho in his military outfit — he has 364 days until discharge. He remembers the people he’s met and said goodbye to since enlisting. He wonders if he will remember them.

D.P. ends on a bittersweet note, bringing an air of calmness to the characters’ lives. The story shows how much the life of a D.P. officer has consumed them. Ending on a soft, peaceful note felt fitting and an excellent narrative choice by the writers.
