We discuss the ending of the 2023 Netflix film Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie will contain spoilers.
Set in Paris, Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie is the origin story of two teen superheroes, Ladybug and Cat Noir, who must protect the world from the chaos of Hawk Moth.
When we first meet Marinette, she’s an awkward teen with very self-confidence. After she comes across her classmate, Adrien, she develops an instant crush on him.
Adrien’s father is the world-renowned fashion designer Gabriel Agreste. Desperately seeking the Miraculous jewels to bring back his dead wife, Adried is secretly the villain Hawk Moth. He uses the Butterfly Miraculous to find normal Parisians who experienced sorrow and turns them into monsters such as gargoyles and evil magicians.
When Hawk Moth begins his reign of terror, the guardian of the Miracle Box sends out the Ladybug and the Cat Miraculous, guarded by the Tikki, the Kwami of Creation, and Plagg, the Kwami of Destruction.
Each of the Kwamis chose Marinette and Adrian, respectively, to take the Miraculous and become the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir.
At first, the two heroes struggle to work together but soon realize they are stronger together than separately. As the months fly by, the friendship between Ladybug and Cat Noir gets stronger as they keep defeating the monsters created by Hawk Moth.
Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie Ending Explained
As the two teens kept their identities a secret for most of the movie, their feelings for each other got complicated. While Marinette had a crush on Adrien, Cat Noir had a crush on Ladybug.
Why does the relationship between Ladybug and Cat Noir sour?
Without knowing they had feelings for each other, Ladybug rejects Cat Noir, and Adrien rejects Marinette, which leads to a break in their ability to fight Hawk Moth together.
Ready to destroy the world so he can get his hands on the Miraculous and revive his wife, Hawk Moth lets the Butterfly Miraculous turn him into an all-powerful monster. He starts causing wreckage in Paris, and Ladybug is unable to stop him by herself.
Why is Ladybug fighting Hawk Moth without Cat Noir?
Cat Noir is late to the fight because he is too busy feeling sorry for himself over Ladybug’s rejection. But when he arrives, he tries defeating Hawk Moth alone and fails.
During the battle, Hawk Moth even manages to steal Ladybug’s earrings, but she then gets up and makes a last-ditch effort to protect Cat Noir.
Cat Noir’s mask is damaged in the battle, and Hawk Moth recognizes his son. Seeing it’s his son he’s been fighting all this time, Gabriel puts an end to the chaos and gives Adrien a heartfelt apology.
Who repairs the damage in Paris?
While the father and son are enjoying a touching moment, Ladybug uses her magical powers to completely restore Paris.
We then cut to a more confident Marinette arriving at the school ball. She seeks out Adrien. As they finally know each other’s true identities, the two share a kiss.
Where is Adrien’s mother?
In a pre-credit scene, Gabriel’s assistant heads to a secret chamber in his mansion. It’s there that she finds Adrien’s comatose mother wearing the Peacock Miraculous.
The damaged Peacock Miraculous was the reason Adrien’s mother fell into a coma in the series, so a second full feature may center on that element of the story.
