Summary
“Are We Free?” was always going to be a tough episode to follow, and “Jace + Crystal” struggles to live up to the previous installment’s hype. It’s a sappy, slower-paced episode focusing on Jace and Crystal’s standard relationship. Unfortunately, the sixth episode is also filled with many predictable and inconsequential scenes, along with this cliched romance.

After the politically charged season highlight, “Are We Free?” Swagger returns with a smaller, slower-paced offering. In “Jace + Crystal,” the two teens and their on-again, off-again relationship take center stage.
Swagger Season 2 Episode 6 Recap
To illustrate the parallels between Jace and Crystal’s lives, the episode begins with a montage linking the two athletes. They are both seen training vigorously, and they are both experiencing renewed positivity on social media after the online scandal with Coach Warrick.
The Cedar Cove students then meet at the Maryland Unified Athletic Counsel for their public apology. If the players can apologize for their crimes, then the board will reinstate them onto the team. Jace delivers a heartfelt statement but refuses to apologize for what he did.
Jace believes that he is protecting Crystal. There should have been better systems in place to protect her, but the teens had to step in when no one else would.
The other players, Phil, Musa, and Drew, all agree they will not be apologizing either.
Alonzo is furious that the players would blindside him like this. He worries that the board will not take this snub lightly. Meanwhile, Jenna (Jace’s mom) is concerned about her son’s recruitment opportunities dwindling and then going completely silent.
Ike thinks the right college will still believe in Jace no matter what the circumstances.
Why is Crystal celebrating?
With all the stresses going on, Jace decides to take a day off school to concentrate on his mental health. At the very same time, Crystal is contacted; she has made the McDonald’s All-American roster. To celebrate, she surprises Jace with a fun date.
The couple goes roller-skating and can be seen holding hands in public. Jace has a heart-to-heart with Crystal, talking about his issues with recruitment.
Everyone has started to pick his game apart; he’s not been chosen for the McDonald’s All-American roster either. Crystal decides to keep her good news a secret so she doesn’t upset Jace.
Then, they discuss their careers and how splitting up in the first place may have been a mistake. Crystal admits that she has broken up for good with her partner.
She is still very much in love with Jace. Jenna phones to interrupt this romantic conversation. She invites Jace to her conference, but he declines her invitation.
Why do Jace and Crystal argue?
Jace and Crystal finally kiss each other on their date. Later, Jace checks through the McDonald’s All-American roster, finding Crystal’s name in the lineup. He congratulated her on this huge achievement. Crystal defends her decision to keep it a secret. Of course, this ends in an argument between the lovebirds. Jace is annoyed she kept it a secret, while Crystal hates how egotistical and selfish Jace can be.
Next, Jace receives a phone call from Ike; he has been reinstated after all. The board has buckled under the pressure and given into public opinion.
The Cedar Cove players have been forgiven by the public, so the board has conceded as well.
Jace shoots off to practice, refusing a lift from Crystal after their fight. In the locker room, Ike makes a motivational speech. The Mustangs are considered the underdogs for a change; they need to prove their haters wrong.
Before the game, Jace phones Crystal to apologize. He’s sorry that he made Crystal’s successes all about himself.
Elsewhere, Jenna won the Beauty Consultant of the Year award at the Holly Ann Conference. They even gift her a brand-new car. After receiving this unexpected award, she watches her son’s return to basketball live on her phone.

The Cedar Cove Mustangs take on the Rustic Falls Warriors. Jace returns with a bang, leading his team to a much-needed victory. The crowd chant his name over and over again.
Do Jace and Crystal get back together?
That night, Jace finds himself home alone. He’s visited by Crystal. Things start awkwardly between the teens, but they eventually make their way to the bedroom. Jace says how he has always been in love with Crystal and that he will be in love with her forever. They kiss and make love, with Crystal also saying how she loves Jace too.
