Summary

A thrilling series of up and downs that will have viewers on the edge of their seats trying to predict what’s coming next.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 4, “Hero War, Gang War,” which contains spoilers.

Even with the help of Akutagawa (voiced by Kensho Ono) last week, Fukuchi (voiced by Akio Otsuka) proved to be too strong of a foe for Atsushi and the Armed Detective Agency.

His ability to rewind time made him almost impossible to defeat in the thrilling yet gut-wrenching episode that cost Akutagawa his life in the end.

With no imaginable options left, it’s hard to predict how Atsushi (voiced by Yuto Uemura) will make it out of this battle alive unless he runs. Even then, Fukuchi has already proven he has more than a few tricks up his sleeve to ensure his victory.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 4 Recap

The episode opens with Atsushi managing to escape using the evacuation submarine. Fukuchi considers going after him, but the ship’s guards arrive, distracting him.

Who is the fifth member of the Decay of Angels?

Bram Stoker, also known as the “Undead King,” is the fifth member of the Decay of Angels. He has a vampire-like appearance and tendencies. He also possesses an infection-type ability that turns whoever he bites into a vampire as well.

What does Fukuchi do with Akutagawa’s corpse?

Fukuchi has Bram bite Akutagawa’s corpse, turning him into a vampire. This not only resurrects Akutagawa but also gives him the ability to bite others, soon creating a vampire infestation.

How did Tachihara realize Fukuchi was the mastermind behind the Decay of Angels?

Tachihara realizes Fukuchi was the mastermind behind the Decay of Angels after his own cover was blown in the Port Mafia. His boss, Mori, pieced together everything after hearing from the Armed Detective Agency. Instead of killing Tachihara, Mori asks him to become a double agent instead.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 4 Ending Explained

Although it seems like Tachihara has Fukuchi cornered, with metal shards flowing through his body, Tachihara finds himself stabbed with Fukuchi’s time-space sword. Fukuchi reveals he sent a message to himself in the past to send an attack into the future and set Tachihara up.

Fukuchi uses his sword to blind Tachihara, making it harder for him to manipulate metal. He then says in four days, half the world’s nations will be vampires before having Bram bite Tachihara.

As the vampires spread overseas, the episode ends with the UN secretary deciding it is time to request the use of the ability weapon, One Order.

Just when I thought we stood a chance, Fukuchi once again proved himself to be ten steps ahead. For a while, I wondered if Tachihara would ever say what he learned about the Armed Detective Agency last season, so seeing him play double agent today was both unexpected and incredibly welcome, even if he failed in the end.

Of all the shows this season, this has simultaneously become one of the most infuriating yet satisfying anime I am watching. Each episode builds upon the last, creating a neverending sense of dread, but still, you can’t help but wonder what is coming next.

It’s impressive how the story never feels like too much or too hard to follow. Aside from the occasional animation repeat or extended still shot, this really has been an entertaining watch thus far.
