Crunchyroll anime series Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Review

Summary

When it seemed this series couldn’t get any crazier, Season 5 challenges everything viewers knew and expected, making it one of the most thrilling rollercoaster rides yet.

Here is our review of the Crunchyroll anime series Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5, which does not contain spoilers.

Fans were thrilled when Bungo Stray Dogs returned in Winter 2023. Season four, which was praised by viewers and even received an 8.45 rating on MyAnimeList, ended on a major cliffhanger, leaving everyone who watched more than ready to see what would happen next.

After sitting out of the Spring season, the fan-favorite anime series is back and even stronger than before, picking up right where the last one left off and reminding everyone just why this series is as loved as it is.

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Review and Plot Summary

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 picks up right where Season 4 left off, starting with the Kamui Revelation Arc and moving into the Vampire Infestation Arc.

At the beginning of the season, The Armed Detective Agency is still being suspected of terrorism. Despite Ranpo doing his best to clear their name on national television, it seems only a third of the police force is willing to side with them.

As the group works hard to prove their innocence, with Atsushi even learning the location of the missing notebook page, they also begin to piece together exactly who is behind the terrorist attacks they are being accused of.

Even after learning the real evil mastermind is none other than Fukuzawa’s old friend and beloved war hero, Ochi Fukuchi, they have suffered nothing but setbacks after trying to expose him, proving him to be one of the most formidable foes they’ve ever encountered.

Overall, this season has proven to be an exceptional continuation of last season, which was amazing in its own right. Bungo Stray Dogs always brings a certain level of unpredictability to its episodes, but in just four episodes, this season has dropped more surprises and twists than I could’ve imagined.

Studio Bones has done a great job bringing these arcs to life, especially when it comes to the action sequences. While there were some complaints about reusing old animation sequences or scenes that sit still for too long, at the beginning of the season, they haven’t been bad enough to take away from the overall experience or excitement.

Fans know that often times budget restrictions can lead to studios sacrificing in some areas so that they can devote more of the money to others. Overall, the storytelling and fights have made up for any issues, especially in these latest few episodes.

Despite being only four episodes in, season five has already proven itself as a must-watch series this season, taking what fans loved about season four and improving on it.

Is Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 good or bad?

So far, Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 is very good. Since this season picked up where four left off, there was no need to wait for the story to build up and get exciting. It has been intense and entertaining right from the opening scene.

It seems fans would agree as well if the reviews of My Anime List are to be believed. According to the popular review site, this is actually the highest-rated season of the Bungo Stray Dogs ever, with an average score of 8.68.

Is Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 worth watching?

Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 is definitely worth watching. For anyone who is caught up through season four, not watching season five would be doing yourself a disservice, as this is easily one of the most enjoyable seasons the series has put out.

While Bungo Stray Dogs has always been fun to watch, it’s definitely a show that has gotten better with age. The storylines have only gotten more complex, with the stakes constantly rising. It definitely feels like this is the kind of major storyline that the previous seasons were preparing you for as a fan.
