Summary
While “Challenge” might have moved some pieces along, the episode felt more like a filler setting up things to come. One of the weaker episodes of the season so far.

The school is heading to Paris in this episode of Heartstopper. From Tao and Elle trying to repair their friendship, Imogen realizing she might be with the wrong guy, and Charlie and Nick remaining stuck, it’s a whirlwind of a ride.
Heartstopper Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
Everyone is boarding the bus when Nick asks Charlie if he is still okay with keeping them a secret. Although hesitant, Charlie says yes, and jokes that he can’t go two whole days without kissing him. They also mention that they shouldn’t sit next to each other on the bus, and we see that neither will Tao and Elle when Nick asks Elle if she wants him to move spots and she says no.
On the bus ride, Nick was on the phone with his father speaking French, which shocks Tao a little. Tao asked who he was talking to, and he said his father, who he planned on seeing while they were in Paris because he doesn’t get to see him often. The sleeping arrangements aren’t as Charlie and Nick planned with them sleeping on opposite beds, but they hold each other’s hands as they fall asleep.
When Nick asks the group what the plan is, Tao and Elle speak up saying they want to go to The Musee de Montmartre (a museum). However, the rest of the group finds them quite boring leading them to go to it together. Tao and Elle agree that their friendship is more important and that they are both sorry for how they handled things.
Who breaks up in “Challenge?”
After Ben stopped paying attention to her, Imogen headed with Charlie’s group to explore Paris. While on the trek, Imogen talked to Nick and Elle about Ben and how he hasn’t been a good boyfriend to her. So later that night at dinner, she confronted Ben about how he had been acting and broke up with him in front of everyone.
Nick talks to Tao about the museum experience with Elle. Tao said it went fine, and when Nick said he thought they’d be good together, Tao asked why Elle would ever want to be with him. This leads to Nick trying to say nice things, but Tao mentions he didn’t think Nick liked him, but Nick said many more nice things about him.

What makes Charlie freak out at the end of the episode?
After Isaac and Tao left to go get snacks, Charlie arrived, and he and Nick finally had some alone time together. The two started wrestling around in the bed leading to the duo making out on the bed. While things began to get hot and heavy, they agreed to stop as someone might walk in. The following morning, Charlie got up to brush his teeth and realized that Nick had left a hickey on his neck, and he freaked out.
