10 Movies like Pretty Woman you must watch

We discuss 10 movies like Pretty Woman you must watch. Add these well-recommended and highly-rated films to your watch list.

Pretty Woman made a huge impact on audiences in the 90s because of what the film was about. This film is also directed by Gary Marshall and is about a man in a legal but hurtful business who needs an escort for some social events and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets… only to fall in love.

The fine line between spending paid time and enjoying said company was blurred, and the two of them had an interesting relationship. Vivian Ward (Roberts) knows the business she’s in and refuses to fall for what Edward (Richard Gere) is doing.

The films on this list have all different relationships and forms of love. Each pairing or trio listed below has wonderful chemistry, which is what 80% of rom-coms need to succeed. On top of that, some leads go through makeovers similar to Vivian in Pretty Woman, which ties this list together.

10 Movies like Pretty Woman

Maid in Manhattan (2002)

Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes star in this film, written by John Hughes and Kevin Wade. It’s about a Senatorial candidate who falls for a hotel maid, thinking she’s a socialite, when he sees her trying on a wealthy woman’s dress. She gets to live out a fantasy for one night, and it changes everything that she has known about New York.

Notting Hill (1999)

Julia Roberts was untouchable in the 90s, and the more rom-coms she made, the more everyone seemed to love her. Thacker is a simple-minded bookstore owner, and one day, Anna Scott walks in looking for something. After that, his life is completely changed because all she wants is some normalcy (which he gives her), but the constant spotlight is too much for him.

The Bodyguard (1992)

Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston gave people a romantic drama to remember. A former Secret Service agent takes on the job of a bodyguard to an R&B singer, whose lifestyle is most unlike a President’s. The chemistry between the two of them is what made this so heartbreaking to watch, and it easily became the hit of the 90s.

My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

For anyone who does have a best friend of the opposite sex, My Best Friend’s Wedding will hit you like a pile of bricks. When a woman’s long-time friend reveals he’s engaged, she realizes she loves him herself and sets out to get him, with only days before the wedding. People may not act on their feelings like she did, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t think about it.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey had such good chemistry that they made another film together almost five years later.

In this film, Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) is an advertising executive and ladies’ man who, to win a big campaign, bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days, while Andie (Hudson) has to do the opposite for her news article.

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

The trio of Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant in the early 2000s were on another level. All three of them made films that are beloved by many, so to have them together in a romantic comedy was a surefire hit. Bridget Jones (Zellweger) is determined to improve herself while she looks for love in a year in which she keeps a personal diary.

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

This rom-com had many surprises along the way, but as an audience member, you were completely distracted by the intricate relationships happening on screen. A middle-aged husband’s life changes dramatically when his wife asks him for a divorce.

He seeks to rediscover his manhood with the help of a newfound friend, Jacob, learning to pick up girls at bars.

The Princess Diaries (2001)

This adaptation was wonderfully made, and it’s because of who was cast. Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) has just found out that she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia. It doesn’t help that her grandmother — and Queen of Genovia (Julie Andrews) — is on her back teaching her how to be a Royal.

P.S. I Love You (2007)

A young widow (Hilary Swank) discovers that her late husband has left her ten messages intended to help her ease her pain and start a new life. This was adapted from the novel written by Cecelia Ahern, who also co-wrote the screenplay.

Miss Congeniality (2000)

An FBI agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event. She had the poise of a police officer but learned how to channel her inner feminity and not be on guard like she normally is. It’s okay to balance both, and there’s nothing wrong with letting our guard down.
