10 Movies like Project X you must watch

We discuss 10 movies like Project X you must watch. Add these well-recommended and highly-rated films to your watch list.

If you didn’t know, Project X is based on a true story. Back when YouTube was starting, and videos would go viral, this was one of the first videos that everyone saw. It was also the first viral video to be turned into a movie.

In this coming-of-age film, three high-school seniors throw a birthday party to make a name for themselves. As the night progresses, things spiral out of control as the word of the party spreads.

What started out as a small high-school get-together to prove their popularity turns into a full-on rager because the news spreads through the internet. People they don’t even know turn up to the house, and news stations show up as well to document the craziness of this night.

The films on the list below all have hilarious moments because parties don’t always go as planned. Coming-of-age films are filled with poor decisions that any audience member can relate to, and that’s why they’re always entertaining to watch.

10 Movies like Project X

21 & Over (2013)

The night before his big medical school interview, a promising student celebrates his 21st birthday with his two best friends. Miles Teller, Justin Chon, and Skylar Astin had great chemistry and made this hilarious.

It’s all about partying and dealing without responsibilities later, even when the consequences could change the entire trajectory of your life.

The Hangover (2009)

In 2009, no comedy could come close to The Hangover. Whatever happens in Vegas does stay in Vegas, but pictures last forever. Three buddies wake up from a bachelor party in the nicest suite Caesars Palace has to offer, with no memory of the previous night and the bachelor missing. They make their way around the city in order to find their friend before the wedding.

Neighbors (2014)

After they are forced to live next to a fraternity house, a couple with a newborn baby do whatever they can to take them down. The film has Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne versus Zac Efron and Dave Franco. It is basically an R-rated prank war that will have you laughing the entire time.

American Pie (1999)

Every generation has that one raunchy teen comedy that defined the era, and American Pie joins the ranks of Porky’s and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The story is simple, four teenage boys enter a pact to lose their virginity by prom night. The cast worked so well together to the point that they made another three movies together, and the franchise also had spinoffs.

Dazed and Confused (1993)

This is one of Richard Linklater’s first films, and it became a cult classic. The adventure of high school and junior high students on the last day of school in May 1976. The 90s were filled with films about the 70s, and that made for interesting high school stories because those filmmakers were old enough to express their feelings from that period.

This is the End (2013)

If you want a party movie and a horror movie, then This is the End is for you. This entire cast plays themselves, so it’s a bunch of actors at James Franco’s house when the apocalypse happens.

Judgment Day is upon the actors in Los Angeles, which leads to tough decisions and a newfound perspective for these actors.

Booksmart (2019)

In Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut, two straight-A high school students decide to let loose the night before graduation. They are academic superstars and best friends who realize they should have worked less and played more. Determined not to fall short of their peers, the girls try to cram four years of fun into one night.

House Party (1990)

Kid decides to go to his friend Play’s house party, but neither of them can predict what’s in store for them on what could be the wildest night of their lives. This became a cult classic and was even remade earlier this year.

Animal House (1978)

If you were a fan of Saturday Night Live, then you knew how iconic John Belushi was back in the day. Director John Landis captured the lives of college students in 1962 when Dean Vernon Wormer was determined to expel the entire Delta Tau Chi Fraternity, but those troublemakers had other plans for him.

Normally, films with SNL stars are funny based on the type of humor you enjoy. If you liked what Belushi did on the show, then you’ll find this funny. However, if you’re more into Dan Aykroyd or Chevy Chase’s comedy, then their films would work better for you.

Risky Business (1983)

Right after a minor role in The Outsiders, Tom Cruise became an overnight sensation because of Risky Business. In hindsight, it’s almost like the R-rated version of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. A Chicago teenager is looking for fun at home while his parents are away, but the situation quickly gets out of hand.
