Killer Book Club Review and Plot Summary
Killer Book Club has a group of teenagers: Angela, Sara, Nando, Rai, Sebastian, Koldo, Eva, and Virginia, who are all part of a book club. They are a close-knit group, even though they may have disagreements at times. The friend group becomes divided based on who is dating whom, which causes a rift between them.
Angela (Veki Velilla) is a strong writer, and people have taken notice, including her professor. She had written a book years ago, and her professor is keen to read her writing. He sees her as a star pupil and wants to help mold her into a strong author.
However, while Angela contemplates sending her early drafts to her professor. She doesn’t know if it’s a good idea or not. So after she does send these emails, he invites her into his office.
Her professor is acting very weird with her the second she steps foot in his office. He is almost preying on her, and he sexually assaults her. She freaks out and ends up hitting him to escape. The book club comes together and helps her through this time.
Conveniently, the book that they are reading together is about a murderous clown. So to get back at the professor for doing something this horrible, they decide to prank him and terrorize him one evening.
The club ends up pushing things a bit too far, and something even worse happens. While watching this, it does feel like I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the events that occur afterward make this a fun slasher.
Is Killer Book Club good or bad?
Killer Book Club is a fun slasher and a good time. These characters all come together for a friend of theirs and help defend themselves from someone they trusted, not to harm anyone.
The book club aspect being worked into the story was clever and worked well when the story began to turn on them. It is a bit generic, but the characters will keep you engaged throughout to solve the mystery of who is hunting them.
Is Killer Book Club worth watching?
Killer Book Club is worth the watch because of the story here with these characters. What could be considered cheesy because it involves clowns turns into a more meaningful story entirely. What happens to Angela is devastating for a student who wants to be an eager writer.
Her professor puts her in a position that makes her feel so small and even makes her feel that it was never about her writing. The slasher conventions are present, and the neon lighting gives off a similar vibe as Fear Street 1994.
