Summary

Rocky relationships are put to the ultimate test in this second season. Exciting, entertaining, and easy to invest in.

Here is our review of the Netflix reality series The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 2, which does not contain spoilers.

The Ultimatum is back for a second season, streaming on the king of streaming platforms, Netflix. This dating reality television series was created by Chris Coelen and produced by Kinetic Content.

This season sees the return of husband and wife Nick and Vanessa Lachey (Love is Blind), encouraging couples to put their love to the test while having encounters with other potential matches.

Just like Season 1, Season 2 sees five couples who are on the verge of marriage put to the ultimate test. Each pair has eight weeks to decide whether they want to get married or call it quits.

Couples are split up as they choose new partners from the rest of the group and then move in with them for three weeks. Would you trust your partner or yourself enough to do this? I’m not sure many would, which is why it’s much more fun to watch other people do it.

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move on Season 2 Review

The series starts with the seemingly happy couples walking in slow motion, in a romantic setting, with cuts of interviews from the contestants wanting to get married and how this is the ultimatum for them. In a room filled with hundreds of candles, our hosts explained the situation, and everyone seemed a little nervous.

The couples are Lisa and Brian (32, 29), Kat and Alex (28, 32), Ryann and James (24, 24), Riah and Trey (25, 29), and finally, Roxanne and Antonio (31,30). The least amount of time dating is two years, and the most is seven.

Ryann and James were high school sweethearts, and I instantly got the ick from him and wanted her to dump him. He clearly did not want to commit and was waiting until something/someone else came along, and it did, and he ended up sleeping with someone else on the show.

Lisa and Brian seemed in love and genuine until Lisa became incredibly jealous, and petty violence broke out.

Trey and Riah’s relationship is rocky from the start, as they are not on the same page regarding children, and their drama continues. I was really rooting for Kat and Alex and Roxanne and Antonio to stay together.

The series is a mix of awkward and emotional conversations. Which is probably why it’s so addictive to watch. Honestly, after some of these awkward conversations, it feels like one person is trying to convince the other to marry them, which is desperate and then makes me feel sad for them.

So while there’s fun in the drama, it’s also sad to watch people get hurt. A lot of reality TV is meant to make audiences feel better about themselves, and in these cases, it made me grateful for being single and not having to deal with this type of rubbish.

Is The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 2 good or bad?

It’s good. I will admit I started this series really not caring, but the more I watched, the more engrossed I became and began to invest in and enjoy the show. To some viewers, it will be seen as a complete joke and a waste of time — surely you know if you want to be with someone or not?

However, this series does appear to give its contestants clarity and confidence to do what is right for them, with a supportive helping hand. I also did appreciate the underlying idea that marriage is something to be strongly considered.

Is The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 2 worth watching?

If you want to watch some rocky relationship drama, then yes. As a reality series, it does offer that “slice of life” storytelling and feels very personal. It’s entertaining and filled with drama, action, and suspense.
