Summary
A suspense-building thriller that leaves viewers guessing just how the Armed Detective Agency is going to fix any of this.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 8, “Land of Inhuman Demons (Part 1),” which contains spoilers.
For two people who always seem to be ten steps ahead, both Ranpo’s (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya) and Fukuchi’s (voiced by Akio Otsuka) plans seem to be unraveling right before their eyes.
Whoever comes out on top will depend on which of them can adapt to the constantly shifting airport dynamics before the other. With Bram (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda) and Aya (voiced by Minako Kotobuki) on the loose while the Armed Detective Agency tries to convert the Hunting Dogs, it could still be anyone’s victory.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 8 Recap
The episode opens with Atsushi confirming a meeting spot with Ranpo. As he takes Teruko to the proper runway, Atsushi wonders why she is cooperating with him if they believe the Armed Detective Agency is responsible for Jono’s disappearance and notices a discrepancy in her words.
Why does Teruko attack Atsushi?
Despite claiming she will cooperate, Teruko attacks Atsushi and de-ages him into a child, hoping to torture him for information on Jono’s whereabouts.
What is Kenji Miyazawa’s ability?
Kenji Miyazawa’s ability is called Undefeated by the Rain and grants him superhuman strength and sometimes durability.
Kunikida describes his ability as “being granted the power of the forces of Mother Nature” and notes that it seems stronger when he is angry.
How did Dazai receive information from outside of Meursault Prison?
In order for Dazai to receive information from outside of Mersault Prison, Ango made a deal with a time-stopping ability user who is also imprisoned there. When instructed by Ango, she briefly stops time, freezing everyone around her but Dazai, whose nullifying ability cancels out hers.
This way, he is able to receive messages and make other moves without ever being noticed.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 8 Ending Explained
Dazai watches Fyodor and Chuya drown. Meanwhile, back at the airport, Aya and Bram hide in the back of a cleaning van. She asks if he would like help removing the sword in his chest, but he calls her foolish, informing her that doing so would only allow him to unleash darkness upon the world.
As Bram explains how the holy sword came to be and how it is wielded against him, Akutagawa suddenly slices the roof off the truck.
With so many characters in this series, it can be fun to focus on people like Miyazawa learning more about the origins of their abilities. However, it was Dazai’s storyline that truly stole the show today, leaving me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
It’s always an experience when Bungo Stray Dogs reveals some of the more intricate details behind an ability or plan, and Dazai’s plan to kill Fyodor was one I definitely didn’t see coming. Not many plotlines in this series are obvious or predictable, and today’s episode was meant to keep you wondering.
Considering we did not get any confirmation of Fyodor or Chuya’s death, I’ll be wondering about that next week.
