Summary

There are some genuinely hilarious moments and several emotional scenes. It’s rare for teen comedies to get this balance right without seeming disingenuous.

Here is our review of the 2023 Netflix Hindi movie Friday Night Plan, which does not contain significant spoilers.

The Hindi-language Friday Night Plan is a teen comedy reminiscent of cult classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Superbad. The film was written and directed by Vatsal Neelakantan, and it features performances from established Bollywood stars such as Juhi Chawla and Ninad Kamat alongside relative newcomers Babil Khan, Amrith Jayan, Aadhya Anand, and Ria Chaudhary.

Friday Night Plan Review and Plot Summary

The movie starts by introducing the two leads, brothers Sid and Adi. Since their father’s passing, the two siblings have been raised by their mother. Despite being close in age, they struggle to get along.

At 18, Sid is the oldest and most responsible brother, while Adi is mostly focused on enjoying his teenage years and sleeping in. On the Friday in question, their mother has to go on an overnight work trip and leaves the two boys to their own devices.

After scoring the winning goal for his team in the school football finals, Sid (who was previously mostly ignored by his classmates) gets invited to the so-called Friday Night Plan, or FNP for short. At first, the studious boy is not interested in the party but allows himself to be convinced by his younger brother.

It helps that Sid’s crush, Nat, is hosting the party, and the boy wants to ask her to prom. While Adi wants to attend the hottest party of the year, and his older brother is his ticket in.

While their mom left clear instructions not to touch the car in the driveway, Sid takes it anyway. This, of course, leads to more troubles involving eggs, an angry cop, and a tow truck.

Friday Night Plan is a well-made coming-of-age comedy that doesn’t fall into the over-the-top trap many teen movies do. While formulaic, the movie does a great job of presenting these characters as individuals, not one-dimensional stereotypes.

We even get scenes where teenage boys play pranks on each other, but the jokes are funny and harmless, which is a breath of fresh air for this type of film.

The relationship between the two brothers stands out. It’s clear they care about each other, so when they bicker, it never turns into nastiness, making the result a relatable viewing experience.
