The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

Where is Rand?

At the start of “Strangers of Friends,” we learn where Rand’s been hiding since he faked his death. The Dragon is living in a city called The Forgate, in Cairhien, where he works at the local Sanitarium. And spends his nights with his beautiful landlady, Selene.

While not yet fully taken over by the madness that plagues men who can channel, Rand is haunted by nightmares and visions of The Dark One commanding him to kill his friends.

After the previous night’s ordeal, Verin and Adeleas decided to accompany Moiraine and Lan to the White Tower despite the Aes Sedai’s ongoing banishment.

Unsurprisingly, Moiraine’s attitude towards her Warder is as secretive and stand-off-ish as it’s been since she lost her powers.

What does Perrin see at the farmhouse?

Perrin’s quest to track down the evil Padan Fain and the Horn of Valere leads the group to an old farmhouse where something terrible happens. Perrin’s eyes turn yellow again, and he sees how a Fade massacred the family not long before his arrival.

Elyas, who is helping them track, shares the same eye color as Perrin and tries mentoring him in using his new abilities. But the young man is still in denial.

As the group starts to get settled in for the night, they find the Fade, who killed the family. The creature has been nailed to a gate and tortured to death.

Shaken by the sight, the group decides to take shelter in a nearby village instead. Rand seems to be enjoying his role of caring for the frail.

But his life is not just about caring for the old and frail. Angered by another orderly for tormenting an older patient, Rand follows the man to a dark alley, attacks him, and channels enough of the One Power to nearly kill him.

Why does Nynaeve need to become Accepted?

Liandrin turns up her charm and tries convincing Nynaeve to train under her and become a Red Ajah. However, there’s the small problem of Liandrin not being allowed to teach novices. To learn from her, Nynaeve must take a test to become an “accepted” Aes Sedai first.

Mat hasn’t been taking his imprisonment standing down. Instead, he’s been working on breaking himself free Shawshank Redemption-style.

Who is in the cell next to Mat?

Mat finally breaks through one of the bricks on his wall. But instead of a way out, he discovers his cell is connected to yet another cell. Inside it, he meets Min Farshaw, the Seer.

While sharing wine, Mat says he has no interest in knowing anything about his future from Min. She still gets a horrific vision of him murdering his best friend, Rand.

Who is Egwene’s new friend?

Meanwhile, Egwene meets the White Tower’s newest novice, Elayne Trakand, the daughter-heir of Andor. The two women become fast friends.

What does Verin know?

While traveling, Verin confronts Moiraine and reveals she knows about the Dragon Reborn.

Moiraine’s first response is to pull out her knife, but Verin is on Moiraine’s side and wants to play her part in helping the Dragon ultimately defeat The Dark One.

What is Liandrin hiding?

Nynaeve follows Liandrin through the village. To her surprise, she finds the alleged man hater caring for an ailing man on his deathbed, her son.

When a shaken Nynaeve gets home, she accidentally overhears Egwene expressing her jealousy toward her new friend.

She gets little time to think about her feelings before Liandrin knocks on her door and takes her to a basement where she must face the Arches.

The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 2 Ending Explained

Moiraine finally tells Lan the truth and breaks their bond.

Who is Ishmael?

The man she and Rand faced at the eye of the world was not the Dark One, but the Forsaken Ishamael, one of his most powerful lieutenants. The Dragon’s actions didn’t defeat The Dark One but set Ishmael free.

Lan refuses to leave Moiraine’s side, but she forces him to by asking Alanna to break their bond and take him to the White Tower.

The village Perrin was in gets attacked by an army of Darkfriends. By the morning, the villagers are prisoners, and Ishmael himself appears on a palanquin. He’s not on the throne but standing at the side of a masked Lady.

Who is the special patient at the Cairhien Sanatorium?

As the orderly Rand attacked is unable to make it to work, he’s assigned to look after the patient in the garden. Among them is Logan, last season’s Fake Dragon.
