6ixtynin9 The Series Season 1 Episode 6 Recap and Ending Explained

This article contains spoilers for the ending of 6ixtynin9 The Series Season 1 Episode 6 on Netflix.

6ixtynin9 The Series is a Thai Netflix original series based on the same-titled film from 1999.

The plot concerns a woman named Toom who is unceremoniously laid off from her job amid the pandemic and is surprised to find a box full of cash delivered to her apartment. Toom lives in apartment 6, but the sign is loose and keeps swinging upside-down, so from the outside it looks like she lives in apartment 9 (yes, that’s why it’s called that.)

The box was sent by Kanchit, a gangster who runs a Muay Thai gym, to Tong, the CEO of the same company Toom worked for. Due to her circumstances, Toom decides to keep the money and begins offing people who try to retrieve it, all while attempting to cover her tracks. There’s a parallel undercover investigation going on, along with neighborly revenge plots and a major drug deal.

What’s in the box?

As above, the box contains money sent from Kanchit to Toom’s former employer Tong. It’s a million Baht in proceeds from Muay Thai match-fixing, dropped off at Toom’s apartment entirely by mistake because of the door number debacle.

Who dies in 6ixtynin9 The Series?

Apart from Toom, almost everyone in the series dies by the end.

Kanchit’s goons, Bun and Noi, are both killed by Toom, their bodies hidden in her apartment. Kanchit’s henchman Sompan is shot dead by John, the policeman boyfriend of Toom’s neighbour Jim, and John is killed by the returning fire. However, in an absurd supernatural development, both reach purgatory and return to life. John is castrated by his girlfriend, who believed he was having an affair with Toom, and bleeds to death as a result.

Tompan gets shot again but manages to survive until Thailand’s national football team qualifies for the World Cup, having been granted a wish by the woman who works the desk in purgatory.

Tud, who is central to the drug operation brewing in the margins, is fatally poisoned by the druglord, Sunny. But Sunny is subsequently gunned down by the police in a stand-off, while Kanchit and Tong end up shooting each other dead. Tom’s friend Fon managed to survive an overdose after a bad breakup only to be shot dead later.

What does Toom do with the money?

In the end, Toom has an epiphany and settles on what to do with the money — she dumps it all in a pond.

This isn’t exactly a happy ending since Toom could have used the money to get out of Dodge, but the real cost of the cash — which includes several lives, some of them close to her — was too much to pay.
