A Time Called You Season 1 Episode 12 Recap and Ending Explained

This article contains major spoilers for the ending of A Time Called You Season 1 Episode 12.

A remake of a beloved Taiwanese classic titled Someday or One DayA Time Called You is the latest Netflix K-Drama to arrive in a complete, binge-able package, this running twelve hour-long episodes.

The basic plot will obviously be familiar to anyone who saw the original, but it’s also reminiscent – perhaps because I watched it recently – of another K-Drama, See You in My 19th LifeThat was about reincarnation, whereas A Time Called You is about time travel, but it’s a similar premise.

In summary, in 2023, a woman named Han Jun-hee loses the love of her life, Gu Yeon-jun, and in her grief, she’s transported back to 1998, into the body of another girl named Kwon Min-ju, and meets a fellow high-schooler, Nam Si-heon, who looks eerily like her lost love.

With the introduction of In-gyu, another student who has a crush on Min-ju, we have all the makings of a lightly fantastical love story.

A Time Called You Season 1 Episode 12 Recap

Why does Min-ju commit suicide?

The episode opens with a bereft Min-ju, and stays with her through worsening feelings of being trapped, alone, and seeing death as the only outlet.

This is subsequent to Jun-hee having taken over. Differences in how she’s treated and is considered emerged from that. Si-heon refuses to speak with her. After conversing with Jun-hee on a rooftop, Min-ju decides it would be better to die as a murder victim.

When Oh Chan-yeong is arrested before being able to inject Min-ju with a “special surprise”, Min-ju debates killing herself with a piece of glass and eventually decides to jump to her death. Despite the efforts of In-gyu and Si-heon, she does so, with Si-heon finding In-gyu crying beside her body.

How does Jun-hee fix things?

With this, Jun-hee is brought back to herself in the present day, seemingly unable to do any more. However, with the cassette tape, she’s able to return back to the moment before Min-ju committed suicide to set things on a different path.

Jun-hee reassures Min-ju that she will no longer interfere, and that Min-ju will do well on her own. She apologizes for contributing to her pain.

After, Jun-hee says her farewells to everyone and asks In-gyu to burn the tapes. She spends her last day with Si-heon, and tells him that she hopes he’ll find her in the future.

“Fixing” everything results in everything resetting to essentially a clean slate, with Jun-hee losing all of her memories, including those of Yeon-jun. Min-ju recalls a dream of a girl saying nice things to her and knows now there are people who support her.

Do Jun-hee and Si-heon end up together at the end of A Time Called You?

In 2011, Si-heon is older and running a webtoon company. He takes the bus home at night, and Jun-hee gets on. He recognizes her, asking if this is Min-ju, and departs when she does, knowing he has found his love.

In essence, Jun-hee cannot remember their previous encounters. She technically never existed as Min-ju, only herself. She has grown into a new potential romance with Si-heon, who recalls everything. They get a clean slate and a chance to make a go of it.
