Still, it is the kind of series that anyone who enjoys solving deeply layered mysteries can be entertained by.

Oshi No Ko (2023)

Like Monster, Oshi No Ko is a mystery anime that follows a doctor whose life is altered forever when he takes on a particular patient. While this series focuses more on corruption within the idol industry, it still has a compelling plot filled with plenty of interesting characters and even a few dark twists.

Psycho-Pass (2012)

Although Psycho-Pass is a more futuristic take on the psychological thriller genre, at heart, both anime are about characters struggling to take down antagonists driven by wicked ideals. If you’re getting into anime, this is usually a good place to start, as it has a solid dub and the kind of plot that grips viewers from the first episode.

Death Note (2006)

When it comes to anime, Death Note is easily one of the most famous crime thrillers out there, and for good reason. While it takes a more supernatural spin on the idea of right vs. wrong, its themes are still very similar to that of Monster.

Banana Fish (2018)

Based on the popular 80’s manga by Akimi Yoshida, this anime adaptation was praised for still being a faithful interpretation of the popular gang story. While Banana Fish focuses on a different side of the crime genre, its darker themes will likely feel familiar to fans of Monster.

For the right customers, the duo can enter the photos and relive those moments, gathering information or fulfilling requests as long as they don’t alter the timeline too severely.

While it sounds farfetched, this series takes a dramatic turn when the duo finds themselves entangled in the plot of a murderer.

Odd Taxi (2021)

While this anthropomorphic mystery series is one of the more unique entries on the list, it is definitely worth checking out.

Like Monster, this series follows a protagonist who finds himself part of a murder mystery and struggles to make sense of everything as he strives to figure it out.

Erased (2016)

Satoru Fujinuma has the ability to travel back in time, but usually, he only goes back a few minutes before a tragedy occurs. This time, when his ability activates, he’s sent back 18 years to solve the mystery of his classmate’s disappearance before it’s too late.

Gankutsuou: The Count of the Monte Cristo (2004)

When referencing The Count of the Monte Cristo, often it’s the unique animation style that comes to mind; however, the story is compelling as well. Like Monster, the antagonist in this series feels driven by nothing other than pure evil, making them more formidable than you would expect.

From the New World (2012)

Although this series leans heavily into the fantasy genre, its plot is filled with plenty of mysterious twists and themes of equality and corruption, making it an equally compelling psychological thriller.
