In 2021, Zakiya Dalila Harris wrote a book about her experience as an editor to address the various forms of racism in the corporate world titled The Other Black Girl. The book was adapted by Harris and a team of writers into a ten-episode series for Hulu. Actress Rashida Jones and Zaklya Dalila Harris co-wrote the pilot together that saw Sinclair Daniel and Ashleigh Murray star in the lead roles.
The Other Black Girl follows editorial assistant Nella Rogers who feels alone at her job due to being the only Black woman who works for her company. The company she works for, Wagner Books, hires Hazel-May McCall, another Black woman, and Nella and Hazel hit it off rather fast. However, one day things turn south when Hazel’s advice to Nella gets her in trouble with her boss. Nella starts to think that Hazel is trying to take her job leading her down a rabbit hole of Hazel’s dark past.

The Other Black Girl has one of the more fine-tuned scripts you will see this year. It has perfectly balanced comedy and mystery. As a result, one minute you are laughing and the next you have your jaw on the floor. Zakiya Dalila Harris’s book is very personal, and you can feel that within the story, and you see the cast and crew buy into this in a way to bring it to life in a perfect way.

Sinclair Daniel leads the series in the role of Nella Rogers and delivers a star-making turn that will jolt her career to the next level. Nella has this self-confidence stunted by those in power, causing mass amounts of confusion and fear inside of her. Daniel brings those concerns to life in the series, and it’s poetic and beautiful.
Will there be a Season 2 of the Hulu series The Other Black Girl?

Currently, The Other Black Girl has not been renewed for a second season.
The Other Black Girl currently sits with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics. With it being that all-in-one binge for all ten episodes, the audience scores will start piling in, which could help Hulu decide to give the series a second season.
Although Zakiya Dalila Harris only wrote one book, it doesn’t mean it will not have a second season. Clearly, if the series is reviewed well and the watch hours are high, Hulu or the producers could give season two a green light.
