Summary

Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer is a hilarious special that sees Wayne become a star in front of a much larger audience.

This review of the Netflix film Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer does not contain spoilers.

In 2015, Kountry Wayne decided after a failed turn in the world of music that he would turn to comedy. Since making that decision, Wayne has gone on to make a career out of it with his hilarious social media skits and performing onstage. He makes his Netflix debut with Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer.

Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer review and plot summary

Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer sees Wayne performing jokes about life as a father of ten, keeping it real with Jesus, and how to know if a woman likes you back.

The special opens with Wayne backstage with a group of friends and family saying a prayer about him being present and thankful. He is about to hit the stage to a bigger crowd than the population of the town he grew up in. He hits the stage with some infectious energy that reels you in fast.

I’ve preached about how important the first ten minutes of a special are for any comedian, especially in this day and age with people with short attention spans. Wayne delivers one of the best opening bits this year with a hilarious deconstruction of him having ten kids. Whether it was shutting down the idea of people criticizing your parenting even when you don’t have kids or the made-up scenario about doing everything for your child, Wayne had me in tears laughing.

I mentioned Wayne’s infectious energy, and it’s important to share a strong appreciation for what he delivered on the stage. He worked hard to get to where he is and didn’t take this moment for granted. This might be many people’s introduction to Kountry Wayne, and you see for an hour straight where this man lays it all out on the line to make you laugh.

There is one thing that Wayne tackles that many comedians aren’t willing to, and that is God. Wayne’s belief in God is on display with how he opens the special with a prayer, followed by when he did his entire bit on God, and talks about how God has helped him get to where he is. However, Wayne’s ability to make jokes out of specific scenarios using God was where it shined. God/Jesus is a touchy subject to tackle on stage, but Wayne delivered.

Is Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer good or bad?

With his infectious energy blended with his larger-than-life personality, Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer delivers one hour of comedy gold. Those who know Wayne already know about his comedic chops, but we are about to witness the deliverance of a star in this space because Wayne is about to make plenty of new fans.

Is Kountry Wayne: A Woman’s Prayer worth watching?

Fans of stand-up comedy and those familiar with Kountry Wayne are in for a real treat, as this is one of those can’t-miss specials of the year. Now, with that comes a small warning that those who aren’t into “vulgar” or “raunchy” comedy might struggle because Wayne doesn’t shy away from anything of that in his material.
