Summary

“Found” is another mixed installment, one that is somewhat saved by an almighty twist ending. The series continues offering unrealistic and unsatisfying conclusions throughout, but that final twist will make fans desperate for more.

Prime Video’s teen series, Harlan Coben’s Shelter, ends its successful season 1 run with episode 8, “Found.” In this eagerly anticipated finale, the teen sleuths Mickey (Jaden Michael), Spoon, and Ema (Abby Corrigan) delve deeper into the many mysteries of Kasselton, uncovering the greatest plot twist yet.

Picking up where we left off, viewers are shown a panicked Mickey still locked inside Bat Lady’s burning mansion. Mickey manages to escape, but he is unable to save Bat Lady from the burning wreckage. He reunites with his friends afterward, discussing the traumatic events that have just transpired.

Meanwhile, Rachel is at your stereotypical teen house party. A drunk Whitney asks Rachel how Ema is doing, admitting that she is in love with the girl.

Rachel then seeks out her boyfriend Troy, who is rather tipsy himself. He argues with Rachel, and the couple dramatically breaks up with one another. This leads to Whitney and Troy hooking up.

The teens head back to Bat Lady’s house the next day. Mickey shows them the secret entrance that leads into the house. Before entering, Rachel hands them all torch tasers (you know, torches that are also tasers) for protection. They follow a trail of blood inside the creepy passageways.

The film reel

This trail takes them to another creepy room filled with film reels and DVDs. They play a random reel on the film projector. It shows the kids in the basement from the very first scene in the series. The kids are guided into the underground shelter.

We see a childhood Luther in the film; he has a fresh scar on his face. Frightened, Luther asks to go home. Bat Lady states that they are safe here. She then hides them from the police within the shelter. Mickey notices his father, Brad, in the film as well.

Back at school, Mickey is told that he won’t be playing in the first basketball game of the year due to his injuries, and Whitney posts about her web of lies online. Rachel finds out that Whitney and Troy slept together.

This is something that Buck is willing to overlook, even though it was his sister and his best friend who were hooking up together.

Why does Troy play terribly?

The basketball game follows. A depressed Spoon helps out with the game’s commentary, although he cannot help but rant during the whole event, talking about death and the scandal with Whitney. Thanks to the commentary and Troy’s ongoing issues, the teen plays terribly, and they lose the game.

Mickey meets with Bat Lady, who survived the fire, desperate for answers. She says that Dylan saved her, dragging her to safety via the tunnel system. Bat Lady then explains the film footage. They had just saved six boys; Luther and his little brother Ricky were part of this group.

Brad helped with the evacuation, but during the rescue mission, he forced Luther through a window, causing his scar. Brad hid the boys in the soundproof shelter while the police questioned Bat Lady upstairs.

Why does Luther want revenge?

The shelter was locked, the boys could not escape. Ricky had an asthma attack whilst hiding in the shelter. They were unable to free him or call for help. Ricky died in the incident. After that tragedy, Bat Lady chose to hide people in plain sight instead, like with Ashley. Luther wanted revenge for his brother’s death though. He stole an ambulance and orchestrated Brad’s crash.

Mickey asks why Bat Lady said that his father was still alive. Bat Lady admits that she still hears him in the night but confirms that he is really dead. She ends by saying that Abeona will carry on fighting the good fight and that Mickey is part of the next generation of heroes.

Heartbroken by these words, Mickey returns home. Shira comforts her nephew. She has prepared him for a party, and all of his friends turn up to celebrate Mickey. They all dance and eat cake together, but Mickey suddenly has a realization: he knows exactly where his father is.

The teens all race back to Bat Lady’s house. Mickey thinks that Bat Lady is hearing Brad’s voice coming through the pipes and that he is still alive. He believes his dad is locked in the soundproof shelter.

They break open the shelter door and head inside.

Is Brad still alive?

This tense sequence inter-cuts with one of Shira as she heads to the morgue for Brad’s exhumation. The coffin is opened, and Shira is shocked by what she discovers. The season concludes with the teens breaking into the shelter. They are also astounded by what they see as Brad shuffles towards them out of the shadows. Mickey’s father is still alive. Luther was punishing him for Ricky’s death, keeping him locked inside the very same shelter where Ricky had died.
