Summary
Episode 6 shows from Egwene’s perspective how the Seanchans treat their channelers. Rand makes a deal with Lanfear, while Moiraine gets an unexpected visitor. Mat and Rand are reunited, but their joy is short-lived.
Season 2, episode 6 of The Wheel of Time, shows just how brutal the Seanchans’ treatment of their channelers is. Rand (Josha Stradowski) makes a deal with Lanfear for Egwene’s (Madeleine Madden) sake and even runs into an old friend. Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) is grappling with the complications of family life and receives an unexpected visitor.
“Eyes Without Pity” starts with poor Egwene in her cell, aptly known as the kennel, by her new damane trainer. Her trainer forces poor Egwene to introduce herself. As a damane, Egwene can’t touch anything she believes is a weapon, so when her trainer tells her to pour a glass of water, she experiences intense pain.
The dream sequence between Lanfear and Rand
The dream chat between Lanfear and Rand goes as well as expected. She wants him to trust her, he wants to know what Ishamael is planning. Lanfear agrees to help but wants Rand to stay away from Moiraine. According to Rand, if he continues to work with Moiraine, Lanfear will kill her.
What does Ishamael want Min to do?
Mat and Min have just arrived at Cairhien. When Ishamael appears in Min’s dreams later that night, he asks her to reunite Mat and Rand and make sure the two leave together. She’s hesitant to do so because of her vision of Mat killing Rand. However, Ishamael promises to remove her curse if she follows his orders.
In Fal, Nynaeve and Elayne tell Ryma about Liandrin’s betrayal. While Ryma wants to send them back to the White Tower with the news, neither girl is willing to leave without rescuing Egwene first.
Who kills Liaindrin’s son?
Lanfear interrupts a touching moment between Liaindrin and her octogenarian dying son. In a rare show of kindness, she mercifully kills the suffering man as a gift to Liaindrin. Loial and Shienaran warrior Masema are now slaves in Fal. The two are plotting to retrieve the horn and rescue Egwene.
In Fal, women who can channel aren’t even regarded as people, which grows more evident by the ruthlessly brutal training and the beatings Egwene endures throughout the episode.
Why does Lan tell Alanna about the Dragon Reborn?
On their way to the tower, Lan inadvertently raises his companion’s suspicions. As she suspects him to be Darkfriend, Lan is forced to tell Alanna the truth about Rand being the Dragon Reborn.
After chasing away Ishamael from Rand’s nightmare, Lanfear takes him to see Egwene inside her cell. Desperate to find out what happened to his lover, Rand offers to do anything Lanfear wants in exchange for Egwene’s location.
Moiraine is her usual charming self. While trying to write a letter to Siuan, her nephew interrupts, and she ices him out. When Anvaere confronts her older sister, she tries kicking her out of the house. But Moiraine is the older sibling, and she technically owns the house.
Mat and Rand meet
At the Sanatorium, Rand goes to see Logaine, who starts training him to use the One Power. He then comes across Mat while walking through the Foregate. While working on trying to open the type of collars the damane wear, Ryma reveals that she had arrived in Fal with three other Aes Sedai. They were all killed. Rand tells Mat about his quest to rescue Egwene from Fal, and Mat doesn’t hesitate in offering to join.
Min’s vision
When Min hears the news, she tells Mat about her vision. Mat is devastated to realize that Min has been playing him since before they even met, and she was the one who led him to Cairhien. Feeling guilty for being mean to Barthanes the previous night, Moiraine apologizes, and the two hug. Their touching moment is interrupted by Anvaere, who has some news. After speaking to Lan, the Amyrlin Seat arrives in Cairhien with 14 sisters, including Liaindrin, and wants to see Moiraine.
Meanwhile, as Rand is about to head to Fal alone (Mat decided to stay behind ), he’s stopped by Lan, Alanna, and her two Warders.
The Wheel of Time Season 2, Episode 6 Ending Explained
In Fal, Nynaeve accidentally uses too much power while trying to figure out how to open the collar with Ryma and Elayne. Her channeling attracts the damane, and Ryma goes outside and tries to sacrifice herself to protect Nynaeve and Elayne.
While Ryma puts up a brave fight, the Seanchan kills her warder Basan and one of them places the damane collar on her neck.
The episode ends with a broken Egwene finally being able to touch the water jug, a sign that she’s given up the thought of using it against her trainer.
As Egwene falls apart in howls of despair, she hears words of comfort from another prisoner. She’s Maigan; Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah.
