The terrifying suspense movie No One Will Save You, directed by Brian Duffield, is about a woman alienated by her own community who is the victim of a home invasion. However, the invaders are apparently not from this world, leading to a horrifying game of cat and mouse. The film’s scenario has led some audiences to believe it is a true story (it isn’t). The movie excels in creating atmosphere, and this is mainly done through the clever and minimal use of sound.

With echoes of A Quiet Place, the film decides to limit the dialogue. There seems to only be one real line uttered throughout the whole thing, and the result is a claustrophobic and often frustrating presentation.

Is No One Will Save You based on a true story?

I can confirm that the film is not based on a true story. No One Will Save You feels like a horror movie and a struggle for survival for the protagonist, but you will feel that the themes that surround and inform the narrative may have a deeper meaning than the film first suggests.

The start of the movie initiated what I felt was a “home invasion” movie. However, as things progress, we start to realize that the invasion seems to be from aliens, and we watch as Brynn fights for survival against the monsters that plague her.

The meaning behind ‘No One Will Save You’

The film does try to leave the audience with a few possible meanings behind the incidents that occur and, more importantly, why Brynn survives. I could argue that the aliens could not control Brynn and decided to leave her with the other infected townsfolk in the town—perhaps they were touched somehow by Brynn’s trauma and exile?

The experience Brynn has lived through has elevated her to come to terms with the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of her friend, allowing her in some way to apologize for her actions and letting her move on.

There is even what I could consider a moment that allows Brynn to literally “kill” her old self, then be reborn symbolically into a new life where she can be accepted again. The guilt that she felt over the death of her friend was slowly destroying her, but the alien invasion allowed her almost to have a cathartic experience, allowing her to come to terms with what she had done.

The final scene implies that the aliens have taken over the world, leaving Brynn as possibly the only human survivor. This is a bitter-sweet irony that may annoy some viewers. So maybe the whole thing was a psychodrama in Brynn’s mind, a way of allowing her inner self to forgive her actions of the past.

Or maybe it’s just aliens versus humans again?
