With the popularity of escape rooms on the rise, horror filmmakers found a new inspiration to tell new terrifying stories. If you’ve recently seen the 2018 movie No Escape Room and are looking for new recommendations, look no further as I list 10 more like it.

The Game (1997)

Michael Douglas stars in this 1997 film by David Fincher. In it, Douglas’ character is gifted a game for his birthday, but after he starts playing, he realizes that this may be more than just a game. It is the first of several examples of movies about games that became much more than that in this list of similar movies to No Escape Room.

Battle Royale (2000)

This 2000 Japanese film is known for being a huge inspiration to the acclaimed book and film series The Hunger Games. In the film’s dystopian future, the Japanese government forces a group of ninth-grade students to kill each other under the radical “Battle Royale” act.

Saw (2004)

The first entry in the long-running horror franchise, 2004’s Saw, directed by James Wan, focuses on two strangers who, after waking up in a room with no recollection of what happened to them, discover they are objects of a notorious serial killer to play with. And the game is deadly.

Stay Alive (2006)

This 2006 horror film focuses on a group of friends mourning the mysterious death of an old friend. They find the Stay Alive survival video game based on a real-life story. As they get deeper and deeper into the game, the line between entertainment and reality begins to blur.

The Baby’s Room (2006)

Set in Spain, Juan and Sonia move in with their new baby into their new home, an old house that needs repairing inside a fancy neighborhood. But as the days go by, they start to realize they might not be alone in the house. Investigating what might be going on, Sonia starts to think Juan might be crazy.

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

A group of five friends from college go to a remote cabin looking for a break from life. But they soon start having out-of-this-world experiences, which eventually lead them to uncover dark secrets about the cabin in the woods. Drew Goddard directed and co-wrote the script with Joss Whedon.

The Conjuring (2013)

This 2013 movie by James Wan was the original in a franchise with long arms that inspired two sequels and multiple spin-offs. The story follows Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga), a couple experienced in investigating paranormal events. They are called to a farmhouse by a spooked family who think they might have a dark spirit with them.

Circle (2015)

This psychological horror-thriller focuses on a group of fifty strangers who wake up in a dark room. Every two minutes, one of them is killed; they soon realize they can choose who the victim is. The dark game then becomes a race to find out who is the one person worth saving.

Countdown (2019)

Countdown is a horror film about an app that seems to predict how much time each user has left to live. When Quinn (Elizabeth Lail) finds out she has two days left, she starts noticing a figure haunting her. She must then find out how she can save herself from the ill fate.

Escape Room (2019)

If you are looking for similar movies to No Escape Room, it’ll be hard to find something more alike than this 2019 January film that lit up the box office. After solving a puzzle to get in, six people are invited to participate together in a very special escape room experience with a $10,000 prize. However, the price they’ll have to pay to get there is much more than they imagined when they got in.

No Escape (2020)

Also known as Follow Me, the film follows a group of friends, led by a social media influencer played by Keegan Allen, as they travel to Moscow to experience a unique escape room.
