Episode 2 of Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 1, “Second Date”, finds our protagonists attending a silent auction, where they must administer a truth serum to a billionaire. They’re both new on the job, and their communication isn’t exactly brilliant, so the mission doesn’t go as planned. The episode features some bizarre moments, including an uncomfortable scene where the newly minted spies have to engage in less glamorous parts of the job. And there’s also the part where they have to dispose of a dead body.

On the morning after the cake bomb, Jane wakes up and walks in on John meditating on their porch. Naturally, she takes the opportunity to go snooping through his stuff, only for him to catch her red-handed. While Jane heads out to buy breakfast, John starts snooping on her laptop and learns interesting things about her taste in erotic entertainment.
Upon her return, Jane meets and innocently flirts with their next-door neighbor. John shows mild signs of jealousy, and the pair discuss the possibility of actually getting together. Jane immediately dismisses the idea and says she wants to keep the relationship professional.
After both admit to taking the spy gig for money, the pair make a pact to continue working together until they’ve made a “certain amount of money.”
What is the Smiths’s second mission?
For their next mission, Hihi wants John and Jane to attend a black-tie silent auction, give a certain bidder truth serum, record all the information he gives them, and make sure not to kill anyone while not leaving any witnesses behind. It sounds simple enough.
At the venue, John decides to pretend to be part of the catering crew, while Jane walks in as a guest. John identifies the highest bidder in real estate mogul Eric Shane.
Jane tries flirting with Mr. Shane, but she’s not exactly his type. Instead, she suggests they pay one of the catering waiters to do “whatever they want,’’ an idea the real estate mogul finds appealing. John and Jane get Eric alone upstairs, where he demands both spies get on their hands and knees and act like dogs. After a few bizarre doggy moments, John and Jane find the opportunity to administer Eric the truth serum. Unfortunately, they were only supposed to give him a single dose, not two.
Now compelled to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, Eric makes his way to the main action room and takes the stage. He admits to a few crimes and involves a couple of his billionaire friends in more illegal activities. The real estate mogul has a bad reaction from his double dose of truth serum, so John and Jane get him off stage and take him home.
What happens to Eric after receiving a double dose of truth serum?
Despite the pair’s best efforts to save Eric, he dies. Naturally, they decide to place his lifeless body in the composter after breaking his bones in the bathtub. It’s uncomfortable to watch, especially as neither Smith seems to have much experience with dead bodies.
How does Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 1 Episode 2 end?
After their unsuccessful mission, John and Jane let off some steam by watching cartoons. One thing leads to another, and the pair of spies consummate their fake marriage.
Meanwhile, Hihi leaves a rather ominous message. The company appears to have a “three strikes and you’re out” policy. Mr. and Mrs. Smith just got their first fail.
