This South Korean competition series has a lot going for it. They have different matches in every episode, and they are pretty detailed. It’s hard to keep track of, and it feels like a version of Big Brother but with more of a competitive nature.

The Devil’s Plan Season 1 will surprise many viewers who are obsessed with reality shows on Netflix because of how intricately designed the game-show component is.

The Devil’s Plan Season 1 Format Explained

In this competition of intelligence, contestants face off in games of wit and strategy to be crowned winner and go home with the ultimate prize. The first four episodes are on Netflix right now, and it’s smart that they divided the contestants the way they did. The series can get overwhelming really fast because of how many people are playing the game.

In the main match in the first episode, they played a different version of the game Mafia. There are many mind games throughout the series, and the set of guidelines is quite confusing. There are almost too many elements to this game, but it’s still so engaging to watch.

The man with the devil’s mask comes on the intercom at the beginning of Episode 1 and explains that each contestant has to collect golden pieces in order to stay in the game. Each contestant gets one piece to start, and eventually, they can use that gold piece as leverage throughout their time there.

In the end, the final player who retrieves the most pieces will be crowned the winner. However, if there is someone who doesn’t have a gold piece at any given time, they are eliminated.

The man in the mask continues with the rules and says that the contestants will take part in two matches a day for a week. It’s all about these gold pieces being used within the match.

They can only trade the pieces in the living quarters as well. Not only can they get eliminated without a gold piece, but they can also get sidelined during matches if they don’t have enough gold pieces. So, the two people who have the least amount of gold pieces have to sit out, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The game show is interesting because the jackpot starts at $0, and then with each prize match, the jackpot increases. The prize games are different than the main match, so there’s a mixture of prize money and exercising brain games. After six matches, the winner could win up to $375,312,62.

There is no right way to play this game because everyone’s strategy is different. The social aspect is really important here because of the gold pieces in play.

Is The Devil’s Plan Season 1 worth watching?

The Devil’s Plan Season 1 is worth watching because of how intricate the gameplay is. Each contestant has their own social tactics, which is really important. They have to talk to each other, and they have to keep those gold pieces safe.

The first couple of episodes are fun because of the personalities in the game. You get to see different people interact for different reasons because of their strategies, and they’re all in close quarters. After the first episode, Lee Si-won, Ha Seok-jin, and Kim Dong-jae have the most gold pieces. So even though they are all a bit confused with how this works, they already have allies and try to work an angle for strength in this game.

It’s interesting because whatever happens during the main match or prize game can be brought into the social game afterward. There are many pieces to the puzzle, so your brain is always working with the contestants. In a way, the show can be a bit exhausting because there is so much going on.
