The eight-episode Netflix series Choona has all the hallmarks of a classic heist thriller. It’s an exciting caper blending humor and excellent character development as a ragtag team of underdogs attempt to take revenge on a ruthless, superstitious politician. However, the ending of Choona is fairly conclusive. Fans will rightly be wondering if the series has been renewed or canceled, and what the future may hold for it and its characters. So, join us as we attempt to answer the question of whether there will be a Choona Season 2 any time soon.

Will there be a Choona Season 2 on Netflix?

At the time of writing, Netflix has not renewed Choona for a second season.
The question of whether or not Season 2 may be commissioned in the future is more difficult to answer. Netflix is always looking to expand its international library and there is tremendous appetite for shows from the subcontinent. However, there’s a strong argument that there’s no artistic viability in continuing this story any further.
While the first season left the villain unrepentant, free, and more delusional than ever, that was a thematic payoff for how his misguidedness and gullibility had led to his downfall in the first place. The entire point was that he learned nothing and ended up right back where he started, and to stretch out another season would undermine that point.
There’s also the usual matter of metrics to consider. While Choona may well be successful, it will certainly have lost a little luster after being pushed back from its original release date. And, since Netflix are prone to canceling anything that doesn’t perform way above expectations, the chances of Choona winning its future through sheer popularity are very slim.

The revenge plot of Choona finds struggling alcoholic contractor JP, Baankey and his sister Bela, goon Ansari, the unpredictable Triloki, and the classic inside man Bishnu, working together alongside Pandit Ji, a presumed-dead astrologer, to take down a crooked politician named Shukla who has wronged them all in various ways.

You can forgive some elements of contrivance, which are basically obligatory in the genre anyway, just for the pleasure of spending a bit more time with these characters and seeing how they react to various crises. And while the show overall might not be as tightly plotted as some of its contemporaries, it trades that watchmaker’s precision for a looser, lighter, and sometimes even mystical quality that is refreshing.
