Lupin Season 3 Review - Netflix
4

Summary

Season 3 does not suffer from third-season syndrome. In fact, it does the absolute opposite. It argues for more.

If there’s one certainty with the series Lupin, it’s always stylish with ease – Netflix bringing Season 3 comes with an air of excitement, especially with seven chapters (rather than the usual five). This article officially reviews the popular French series, and we promise there are no significant spoilers.

I’m not saying anything exceptionally secret among the mouths of critics here, but I’d love to say it out loud – audiences would relish Omar Sy as a cool, slick, arrogant, and funny James Bond. This actor has 007 written all over him. He’s a flagrant pick.

Lupin Season 3 Review and Plot Summary

But enough of my simping, and onto the highly underrated Lupin, a dark horse staple show since 2021. Its relaxed pace and clever exposition on Assane Diop’s (Omar Sy) heists have created an irrefutable, addictive binge. Mixed with comedy and a yearning romance with Claire (Ludivine Sagnier), we could argue that Netflix has not given audiences enough.

And as we enter the third season, maybe that’s the point. Lupin works best as “bite-sized,” giving the audience a wild ride before bowing out gracefully until next time.

As usual, Assane Diop has a plan; he’s always one step ahead of the audience and his supporting characters. He is the narrator, the controller, and the deliverer in almost every scene, even if you do not believe so. That’s the magic of this TV show, and it doesn’t slow down at all in season 3.

And somehow, Lupin does not lose its charms with the misdirections and abundance of trickery and manipulation. The reason is that Assane, who lives by the books of Lupin, always has something to care about. Whether it’s his father, a loyal friend, the love of his life, Claire, his son Raoul, and even the obsessed detective Guédira.

The stakes are far higher in Season 3. Assane recognizes that his life is not sustainable. To protect those he loves, he has to go bigger, but he also has to be better as a person. While his foolery is adored, it’s short-lived. He is a father, after all, yet there’s always this incline that he is too addicted to the game over the man he needs to be in the previous two seasons. There’s a need for Assane to amend matters for Claire and Raoul to get them out of France, but as the story goes, it’s not that simple, making for entertaining viewing for the audience.

Should Netflix continue renewing the series Lupin?

Surprisingly, Lupin Season 3 only encourages audiences to want more by the finale. Maybe it’s the wit and charm of Omar Sy or the formula of the script. This series is difficult to put down. It’s a constant journey of moving cogs, ready to be implemented. From episode 1, audiences are planted in an unknowing world, with welcoming wool over their eyes.

It would be easy to suggest that this series has grown tired and run out of steam, but we have to compliment that the Netflix series is finding more reasons for more stories. And we can only hope that the streaming service has Lupin in its roadmap for the future.
