Jean-Luc Keller was young Assane and Bruno’s boxing coach when they were just kids. He was also a mentor to a young Diop when he was cultivating his talent as a thief.
Back in 1998, Jean-Luc Keller planned to rob a jewelry store. The daring heist would take place during the World Cup Final and he would take steps to coerce Assane and Bruno to join in on his capers.
Things get out of control and in flashback we see Keller, Assane, and Bruno escaping from a cop on a motorbike. However, the ruthless Keller forces Bruno to shoot the officer who is chasing them from their car with a pistol.
Despite Assane’s pleas, Bruno shoots and kills the cop, Keller crashes the car, and Assane and Bruno make a break for it, but Assane places the gun on Keller, leading to his arrest for the killing.
In the present timeline of the show, Keller would make a shocking appearance, breaking into Claire’s home and terrorizing her and Raoul. Quick thinking saves them from the invasion and some exposition from Assane details how far Keller would go in a tense situation.
In a confrontation between Keller and Assane, the Black Pearl is handed over to Assane, and the police arrest Keller, ending his revenge-fueled attacks on Assane and his family.
