Is Kang Nam-soon blood related to Do Bong-soon? K-Drama Explainer

K-drama Strong Girl Nam-soon was directed by Ki Jung-sik and written by Baek Mi-kyeong, who were also behind the series Strong Girl Bong-soon, leading to fans wondering about the connection between the two shows. Fans loved the original superhero fantasy dramedy and have been anticipating the next run of episodes from the creative team, but they are speculating about whether Kang Nam-soon and Do Bong-soon are blood-related.

Well, we’re here to answer that question.

What is Strong Girl Nam-soon about?

The official synopsis of the series is as follows: “Gifted with superhuman strength, a young woman returns to Korea to find her birth family — only to be entangled in a drug case that could test her power.”

Kang Nam-soon vanished in Mongolia as a child. but now she is older she makes the journey to South Korea to search for her parents.

It is while she is in the Gangnam District that she comes across Hwang Geum-ju and her grandmother, Gil Joong-gan.

It seems that in the show, drugs are a major problem in the city where she is looking for her parents. The authorities appear to be struggling to control the epidemic and turn to Nam-soon for help.

Eventually, Nam-soon, her mother, and grandmother become entangled in the drug case that Detective Gang Hee-sik is investigating, using their superpowers to try and find a solution to the drug dealers ruining the city.

Is Kang Nam-soon blood related to Do Bong-soon?

The character of Kang Nam-soon is indeed related to Do Bong-soon.

The characters are cousins in the show, and trailers have shown the mother, grandmother, and daughter using their powers and teaming up against the drug lord Byeon Woo-seok.

Ong Seong-wu also provides backup as an officer dedicated to tracking down the drug dealers.

Is Strong Girl Nam-soon a spin-off or a sequel?

Without getting into the semantics of the situation too much, you could argue that the show is a spin-off from the original 2017 series, but in some regards, it could also be considered a sequel.

However, if you are a fan of this kind of material, or if you loved the first series, then you will no doubt be interested in this.

Of course, there is a sprawling canvas on display and a large ensemble cast to try and keep track of, but in the end, whatever the connections are between the two shows, it will be filled with comedy and action set pieces.

The comedy superhero premise has proved to be popular with viewers, even as far back as the 1960s campy Batman show, right up to the present-day excesses of The Boys, and although this show does not emulate either of those mentioned properties, it looks as if this too will be a hit with audiences.
