Summary
A well-choreographed battle sequence that gives fans one of the most exciting and immersive fighting experiences of the series.
Episode 13 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has a lot to live up to this week after Nanami’s fight with Haruta more than satisfied viewers in Episode 12. With its stellar animation and direction, it seems the popular Crunchyroll series can almost do no wrong. Here’s hoping that trend continues as the Shibuya Incident arc heats up and threatens the lives of fan favorites like Yuji, who could be in grave danger as he takes on a vengeful Choso in this week’s installment.
This recap contains major spoilers.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 13 Recap
The episode opens with Yuji running toward a crowd of people being attacked by cursed spirits. Just as he thinks there are too many for him to save them all, Inumaki appears to assist him, using his power to prevent the others from moving.
Yuji runs into the station, where he encounters Choso. Choso immediately attacks him.
What is Choso’s ability?
Choso has the ability to manipulate blood in different ways. Blood Convergence allows him to apply pressure to blood, compressing and releasing it to a single point. He uses this in conjunction with Piercing Blood, which allows him to shoot his beam of compressed blood with exceptional speed thanks to cursed energy.
Yuji and Choso battle back and forth. Choso not only has the ability to manipulate his blood but to call it back into his body, as if working with an unlimited supply.
Realizing Choso’s blasts are strongest when he first shoots them, Yuji attempts to close the distance between them.
Mechamaru attempts to help Yuji by feeding him information about Choso’s ability and devising a plan. He tells Yuji to flee to the bathroom before taunting Choso to attract him there.
In the bathroom, all the water is running, and the sprinklers are going, throwing off Choso’s ability to clot and manipulate his blood outside his body.
Still, Choso manages to manipulate a clump of blood enough to pierce Yuji’s liver.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 13 Ending Explained
Choso and Yuji continue to battle, with Choco concentrating his abilities in one hand, even at the risk of thrombosis.
Yuji attempts to distract Choso with his unused left hand but ends up severely injuring his right shoulder.
Sukuna mocks Yuji for losing but seems to realize something is off. Choso stumbles out of the bathroom, struggling as he has sudden memories of him, Yuji, and his brothers that clearly are not real.
Yuji is found alive by Mimiko and Nanako.
As one of the more anticipated battles of the Shibuya Incident arc, the Yuji versus Choso fight did not disappoint. From the moment Yuji first encounters Choso, it’s clear this fight will be different.
There have been a lot of cuts back and forth in this arc in an attempt to keep the timeline straight. It has made it hard to just follow through with one scene from start to finish, so I appreciate that this entire episode was dedicated solely to one battle. It felt more cohesive and showed off this particular fight’s importance.
While I do wish that sometimes these episodes weren’t so dark so I could see the fights clearer, that didn’t take away from the moment, and how well-animated it turned out to be. I’m excited to see how the rest of this season’s fights play out after seeing how much effort was put into this one.
