Summary

Although a little slow at the start, the second half of the episode makes for an exciting beginning to Gojo’s past Arc.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1, “Hidden Inventory,” which contains spoilers.

After a thrilling debut season and a successful prequel film, Jujutsu Kaisen solidified itself as one of the must-watch animes of the decade.

At the end of season one, Yuji (voiced by Junya Enoki) and his friends were recommended for grade-one sorcerer status.

However, with the first half of season two set to cover the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Arc, also known to fans as the Gojo’s Past Arc, it may be a while before we get to see just what this promotion means for Yuji and his friends.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

The episode opens with teenage Geto lamenting the taste of cursed spirits as he once again exorcises and absorbs another spirit in an alleyway. Elsewhere, Mei Mei and Utahime discuss a cursed mansion that has led to a recent string of disappearances before heading to investigate it.

How do Mei Mei and Utahime become trapped in the mansion?

After repeatedly seeing the same trash and markings, Mei Mei and Utahime realize they are trapped in the mansion by a barrier technique.

While at first, Utahime theorizes that this is a demon’s innate domain, Mei Mei explains that this phenomenon is not a manifestation of the demon’s mindscape and instead the method they used to trap their victims.

How do Mei Mei and Utahime plan to escape the mansion’s repeating hallway?

To escape the mansion’s repeating hallway, Utahime suggests running down the hall at top speed until they eventually outrun the pace at which the hallway can patch and repeat itself.

Mei Mei corrects her, however, saying a better strategy would be for both of them to run in opposite directions simultaneously to create an opening.

What mission are Gojo and Geto requested?

After being requested by Master Tengen specifically, Gojo and Geto are sent on a mission to escort a girl known as the Star Plasma Vessel to him and then erase her.

Although Masamichi thinks it may be too advanced for them, it is a job necessary for keeping Tengen’s form from evolving and becoming a threat.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained

After receiving their assignment, Geto can’t help but wonder about some of the finer details, like why certain organizations would also be after the Star Plasma Vessel. When Gojo shows little interest, Geto scolds him over the phone for his overconfidence, especially in front of their superiors.

As Geto retrieves the Star Plasma Vessel, the building he is in explodes, revealing that sorcerers from Q are already there to try and get their hands on the girl. The episode ends with Gojo and Geto being attacked separately, while Toji Fushiguro is offered a piece of the action.

It’s easy to see why fans of Jujutsu Kaisen have been eagerly awaiting this second season. While flashback arcs can be hit or miss, so far, Jujutsu seems to do well with flashes to the past. It was especially interesting to hear Geto and Gojo’s differing opinions on helping the weak, considering we already know which sides they end up on in the future.

Although sometimes the series can get confusing with all of its techniques and explanations, like at the beginning of this episode, for example, there’s always a good balance between action and jokes in the series. The Digimon analogy in the second half was both fun and actually quite informative, making Tengen’s character easier to understand.

Overall, this seemed like a good introduction to the season, as well as an interesting look into Geto and Gojo’s past. As a fan myself, I’m very excited to see where this arc goes.
