The boys from Good Burger are back, and a lot older, in Good Burger 2, directed by Phil Traill and written by James III, Kevin Kopelow, and Heath Seifert. The first film, based on a sketch on the Nickelodeon comedy show All That, was released in 1997, so nostalgia will be a big factor in the 2023 sequel. Let’s explore how those efforts to return to a more innocent time and place have been informed by the production as we break down some of the locations where Good Burger 2 was filmed.
The United States of America
The film was made in the U.S. and features a fictional fast-food restaurant industry, so it makes sense that the film would be filmed in the land that gave us the original fast-food industry.
It is pretty much agreed that fast food came from the company known as White Castle, which would sell hamburgers for five cents, in the U.S. from as far back as 1921. But there have been various theories that even before this there may have been some form of fast food for sale to the general public.
Nowadays chains such as Mcdonald’s, trading since 1940, and KFC which was set up in 1952, dominate the field and have become international billion-dollar franchises.
It remains to be seen if Good Burger will go multinational.
Los Angeles, California
Of course, Los Angeles was used as one of the locations for Good Burger 2.
The first film from 1997 was also filmed in California, and took place in West Covina, including scenes shot at a restaurant called Peter’s El Loco.
Using California again helps to try to recreate some of the vibe from the original movie, so it makes sense to use L.A. again.
You will be able to spot some outside locati0n work done in and around L.A.
Rhode Island, New England
Rhode Island is a state in the New England region of North Eastern USA.
Locations used in the production include a former Friendly’s Restaurant in North Providence which was transformed into the Good Burger fast food outlet for the film. The restaurant is located at 1883 Mineral Spring Avenue.
Another location where filming will take place is at the former North Providence Police Station, and filming was also confirmed to occur in East Providence, downtown Providence, Warwick, and East Greenwich.
Filming began on May 18th at the locations mentioned and continued through to June 20th.
Today would cover the film’s production and feature sneak peeks on their news show.
