Summary

Invincible comes back with a bang with a gruesome start to the second season. A mix of strong storytelling and strong battles proves the creators haven’t missed a beat.

Invincible Season 2 sees the city of Chicago dealing with the aftermath of the havoc that Omni-Man caused in the first season of the Prime Video series. In Episode 1, as Mark adapts to life without his dad, he struggles to determine if he made the right choices. As that happens, the city comes under attack, and the leaders refuse to let Invincible get back in the game until his head is straight.

For a refresher of how we got here, the first season finale recap is a good place to start. The following recap contains major spoilers for the first season and this premiere, so you’ve been warned.

Invincible Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

Season 2 kicks off with Invincible battling The Immortal in the skies. The Immortal was kicking Invincible’s ass when he grabbed Invincible by the throat, and on the verge of potentially killing him, Omni-Man rescues him. Of course, Omni-Man makes quick work of The Immortal, saving the day.

Invincible and Omni-Man begin to take over The Immortal’s planet. They threaten the town to back down, or they will take matters into their own hands. The Resistance refuses to stand back and take it, but the father/son combo takes out them and anyone who follows them.

Who breaks the Mauler Twins out of prison?

As they argued with the security guard, the Maulers were struggling in prison. That was until we saw a massive light shine, leading the twins to break out of jail. Outside the jail, they meet with Angstrom Levy, who informs them he broke them out because he needs their help.

Mark returns to school for the first time since his father passed away. Not much of a surprise, but he is the talk of the school as he walks in. He struggles with understanding whether or not he made the right choices and believes that he doesn’t need to be in school but rather saving the world.

However, Cecil Stedman, the leader of the Guardians of the Globe, tells him that until he gets his head on straight, he is on the sidelines. Mark isn’t thrilled with his decision, stating that he doesn’t need his permission to be a superhero, and Stedman tells him he doesn’t want to see him go down the same path as his father.

Angstrom Levy shows the Maulers his plans, including showing them the other dimensions. He tells them that each dimension has something valuable to offer them. Levy said that all of the problems, from cancer to climate change, have been fixed in other dimensions and wants to get all the information to be that hero. He tells the Maulers if they help him, he will give them their own dimension.

Who is the new leader of the Guardians of the Globe?

Cecil gets the team together to inform them that their last few missions haven’t gone as planned. They’ve been slow, resulting in the takedowns being longer. He implements a change by putting The Immortal in charge of the Guardians of the Globe. He also introduces Bulletproof, a new member of the team.

Invincible Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained

While the Maulers are setting up the Angstrom Levy doubles to head to the new dimension, Invincible overhears it going down and heads into the lab to find out what they are doing. This leads to a massive battle where the Maulers (Levy multiplied them) nearly beat him to death.

As the Maulers are on the verge of killing Invincible, Angstrom Levy stops the testing in the middle of it happening because he doesn’t want to start his new plan with murder. The lab blows up, killing everyone involved except Invincible.
