Summary
This episode exceeds expectations, taking what was sure to be an interesting battle and elevating it with several unforeseen twists.
After spending several episodes in the middle of Dr. Stone Season 3 in petrification, it seems Kinro is more than prepared to take on Ibara’s army if it means avenging his brother. While this battle could get deadly, with the drone and the gun at their disposal, hopefully, it won’t come to that. As the situation becomes more dire, one can’t help but wonder just what counterattacks Ibara may or may not have prepared as viewers prepare to see where this battle takes us in Episode 16.
Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 16 Recap
The episode opens with Kinro launching an attack on Ibara’s men. As the others join in, Senku’s group begins to look more and more formidable. Even Moz joins in, making them look even stronger.
Moz encourages Kirisame to ready the petrification device. In his head, he reveals his plan to ambush Senku’s group now that he knows exactly how they plan to overtake the device from Kirisame.
After launching the drone, Ryuusui lands it again, realizing The Kingdom of Science made a fatal mistake.
How did Ibara figure out Senku’s plan?
Ibara figured out Senku’s plan after seeing Moz with a similar earring to Kohaku’s. Once he confirmed they were the same, he took the earring from Kohaku’s body and used it to listen in on their plans. He quickly realized Moz was a traitor and devised a counterplan against him and Senku with Kirisame before the battle.
Senku realizes the petrification weapon is a fake meant to trick them and orders his group to flee. Moz attempts to go after them to convince Ibara he isn’t a traitor.
As Yo realizes he has lost the gun, the group realizes they have also lost Magma and Gen. It appears Magma took the weapon to shoot Ibara and end things quickly but does not get a chance after seeing Ibara has stolen their ship.
Ibara begins hoarding villagers onto the ship so that he can use the petrification device on the entire island to trap The Kingdom of Science. However, without anyone in their way, Senku plans to steal the Master’s body to expose Ibara.
Magma and Gen steal a boat and sail towards the Perseus in an attempt to get close enough to shoot Ibara.
How does Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 16 end?
Senku’s team steals a boat as well, following Gen and Magma. At the same time, the other team infiltrates the palace. They quickly find the Master’s statue has been smashed to pieces and is too old and damaged to be salvageable.
While touching the pieces, Soyuz has a memory of holding his father, the Master’s, hand as a baby. He realizes he remembers his face enough to piece the Master back together even if they cannot revive him.
The episode ends with Senku’s team reaching the Perseus with Magma and Gen, readying an attack.
I expected a lot coming into this episode, as Dr. Stone tends to illustrate battles quite well. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much better the episode was than I expected.
Although seeing Senku’s plan play out perfectly would’ve been just as interesting, the unforeseen twists from Ibara and even Magma added much more excitement and drama to Episode 16 as a whole. While it was clear Ibara was up to something, I would have never guessed he was this many steps ahead.
With all of their plans ruined, it will be fascinating to see what the Kingdom of Science is able to do now.
