If you enjoy a good Christmas family movie, you will no doubt be aware of the third entry in The Claus Family franchise on Netflix. The film, written and directed by Ruben Vandenborre, follows on from the previous two movies, and you should expect all the usual fantasy, humor, and heart-warming holiday feels that the series encapsulates. But how was the festive season brought to life in the filming and production? Allow us to break down the various picturesque European locations where The Claus Family 3 was filmed.

France, Les Gets

A lot of the film was recorded in France, and in particular around Les Gets. What could convey the feeling of the festive period better than the French Alps, and the scenic beauty of the area provides some great location work for the film. The Instagram account for Thomas Vercauteren, a director of photography, confirms the location work in the area, which took place over four days, and also highlights some of the problems for the shoot, with Thomas stating it was “Probably the hardest circumstances I have ever worked in”.

Les Gets – Portes du Soleil was used for some location work, and would have been a perfect location for those snow-drenched slopes you see in the film. Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area and is one of the largest in the world, made up of 12 resorts between France and Switzerland. It is located between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, and close to Geneva airport.

Belgium

The Dutch-language films have their base in Belgium, and it is more than likely that filming would have also taken place there.

Eagle-eyed location spotters may have noticed Ice-Mountain Adventure Park in Belgium, and it appears some shooting for the film and is noted in the credits.

Vilvoorde, Belgium

Vilvoorde is a Belgium municipality in the Flemish province of Flemish Brabant. It is made up of the city Vilvoorde and two outlying quarters called Koningslo and Houtem, as well as the small and beautiful town of Peutie. The city is name-checked in the credits so we assume that some filming took place there too.

There is a thank you to the owners of Villa La Joya in the credit scrawl that had us searching for the location, and there were a lot of potential locations that would fit this credit, so we had trouble pinpointing exactly where this would be. However we know that there may be someone out there that knows the connection between the credit and the movie, so feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Who produced The Claus Family 3?

The film was produced by Anne-Kathrin Dern, a German film composer, and CEO of e-Quality Music Productions LLC, residing in Los Angeles, California.
