Summary

Another exciting and unpredictable installment that perfectly sets viewers up for what should be one of the toughest battles of the season.

After obtaining the petrification device in the previous episode of Crunchyroll’s Dr. Stone Season 3, Ibara becomes more dangerous than ever. At any moment he could choose to release the device over the entire island, petrifying Senku and his friends before they have a chance to expose his lies. It doesn’t help that Hyoga, Senku’s trump card, is struggling in his battle against Moz. While the situation is bleak now, here’s hoping The Kingdom of Science can turn the tides in Episode 18, or they may find themselves trapped on this island forever.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 18 Recap

The episode opens with Hyoga and Moz battling on the Perseus. Yo swims over, attempting to petrify Moz, only to realize he doesn’t know how to use it.

Hyoga dives into the water, swimming toward the island with Moz on his tail. Although Moz thinks he’s trying to escape, Hyoga has faith in Senku and believes that he left to retrieve Hyoga’s favorite weapon for him.

After acquiring a spear upgrade from Senku, Hyoga is finally able to overpower Moz and defeat him.

As Yo lingers in the water holding the petrification device, Ibara jumps off the Perseus and activates it as he falls. Yo is petrified and sinks to the bottom of the water, allowing Ibara to reclaim the device.

Ibara programs the petrification device to go off in fifteen minutes and then has Oarashi run it toward the middle of the island. After struggling, Taiju is able to tackle Oarashi, only to find he is not holding the device. Instead, Ibara forced him to swallow it and tricked him into thinking he’d be safe in the middle of the island.

How does someone activate the petrification device?

The Petrification Device is voice-activated. In order to activate the Petrification Device, also known as the Medusa, someone must first say the desired range, followed by the countdown time.

The petrification device activates, petrifying the entire island.

How does Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 18 end?

As Ibara explores the island, he notices that The Kingdom of Science members near the center all seemed to pose before being petrified. They’re standing in a line, striking the same pose but with their hands forming different symbols.

Ibara recognizes Soyuz’s face from when he attempted to kill the prince as a baby.

After crushing Oarashi’s body to retrieve the petrification device, Ibara notices fresh footprints and follows them to the Steam Gorilla. Suddenly, Senku’s voice comes through the speaker, attempting to activate the device, but he is too far away.

With each episode, Dr. Stone only gets more entertaining. It’s got a solid balance of action, drama, and surprises to keep each episode fresh but engaging.

This arc has a lot more going plot-wise than I ever anticipated was possible. Ibara has proven to be a much more menacing foe than I thought, and it should make his upcoming fight with Senku one of the better standoffs this season.
