Good Burger 2 was a long time coming. A sequel to the first Good Burger, originally released in 1997, and based on a comedy sketch from the Nickelodeon TV series All That, the film starred Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, and was the whimsical story of a high school student, forced into finding employment at Good Burger, to pay for the damages he caused to the car of his teacher. The sequel catches up with the characters from the first film over a quarter of a century later, and further shenanigans occur, with Dexter now pursuing a career as an entrepreneur after leaving Good Burger, but another disaster involving his flame-resistant spray kickstarts the plot for the second film. With a Good Burger trilogy already planned and even more ambitious plans for the franchise apparently on the table, how likely are fans to see more Kenan and Kel in their adult lives?
Will there be a Good Burger 3?
Official Sequel Status: TBC
It sounds pretty definite that there will be a third film in the series and it does not look as if we will have to wait another twenty-six years to see it. However, at the time of writing, there is no official confirmation of a third outing.
The reception to the sequel was surprising, and it seems that the original movie had a huge devoted following that all showed up for the second film’s release. The director, Phil Trail, also managed to tap into the nostalgia wave, placing plenty of Easter Eggs throughout the second film which gave fans a whole lot of detail to enjoy as they watched the comedy sequel.
Although essentially silly and irreverent, fans have taken the characters to their hearts and seemed to mostly enjoy the second film, and with success, comes more sequels. We imagine that a third film will follow soon. Despite a 58% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes, the same site reflects an audience score of 73%, which is consistent with the kind of reactions we’re seeing on platforms like X, formerly Twitter:

What did the Good Burger 2 director have to say about more films?
A recent interview with director Phil Trail appeared on Radio Times, and he sounds confident that there will be a third outing for the comedy franchise. The director states,
“The character of Ed has not changed. He now has a family, he’s got a bunch of kids and a wife, but he himself is still the same old Ed. As that doesn’t change, we can just do it again and again and put them in crazier and crazier situations. There’s plans afoot for various different things. I don’t think it has to be limited to a trilogy, it can go on.”
During the course of making the second film, it became apparent to the crew that there was a huge fan base for the premise. Director Trail would go on to say,
“As we were making it, more and more people came to line the streets to watch us filming. Kenan and Kel drove the Burgermobile around town and everywhere they went, we stopped traffic, [people were] screaming in the streets, there were news reports every day from the set… it was like, ‘Oh wow, this is really something!'”.
So it sounds as if more hilarious adventures are definitely in store.
What could Good Burger 3 be about?
It is a no-brainer to speculate that the third outing will follow a similar tone and premise to the second film and will have to feature the same cast in more madcap adventures. Our in-depth article explaining the ending of Good Burger 2 might give a good idea of where a potential sequel could pick things up.
With no official confirmation of a third film at the time of writing, it is hard to predict a plot, but it will no doubt feature the same leads as the previous films, and revolve around the world of Good Burger. Buckle up, dudes.
