Summary

A thrilling episode that features one of the most exciting battles of the season.

Lately, Yuji hasn’t been able to catch a break in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Yet despite losing Nanami and Nobara back to back, he has yet to lose the will to fight. With his grudge against Mahito only growing stronger, he’s hoping Yuji can finally defeat him in Episode 20.

With the Fall season winding down, I’m surprised Jujutsu Kaisen is still going this strong. By now, many series are seeing things out with final battles, but there seems to be plenty of excitement left for the remainder of this season.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 20 Recap

The episode opens with Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara sitting at a cafe when Nobara accidentally spills coffee on a shirt they were holding for Gojo. They attempt to come up with ways to replace the shirt before Gojo comes to retrieve it. As the group laughs, the scene returns to Yuji overlooking Nobara’s body.

Mahito suddenly charges Yuji, easily getting the upper hand on him. He continues to brutalize Yuji, who has yet to fight back, and then turns his arm into a sickle and prepares to kill him.

Who comes to Yuji’s rescue against Mahito?

Todo comes to rescue Yuji against Mahito. Just as Mahito is about to deliver the killing blow to Yuji, Yuji’s body disappears from its current spot, and Todo is revealed to have saved him at the last second.

Earlier in the evening, Todo is seen investigating where Gojo was sealed with Arata before deciding to switch his objective to eliminating enemies instead.

As Todo prepares to battle Mahito, Arata walks up and says he attempted to provide aid to Nobara, but she will likely die anyway.

Todo encourages Yuji to wake up and help him fight, but Yuji breaks down, thinking of the deaths of his comrades as well as all of the people Sukuna killed. However, Todo explains that continuing to live is still a way to honor their fallen sorcerers.

Arata applies his technique to Yuji, ensuring that the wounds he has already suffered won’t continue to worsen. He says it’s the same technique he applied to Nobara, who, despite not breathing, could still have a chance if he takes her body away from the scene now.

Todo begins fighting against Mahito, who struggles against Todo’s teleportation-like ability. Just when Mahito thinks he’s gotten the hang of it, Todo switches spots with Yuji, who releases a powerful blow on the cursed spirit.

Elsewhere, Miya rides the train with one of Mechamaru’s devices. He explains that he arranged the situation so that only Todo and Arata would be available to help in Shibuya, as they have the highest chance of surviving. He then gives his final goodbyes, implying his feelings for her as well.

How does Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 20 end?

Yuji and Todo continue to tag team Mahito, with both parties pulling out all the stops against each other. After calculating the strengths of their souls, Mahito releases a new, train-shaped spirit in an effort to eliminate Todo.

Mahito gets Todo alone and attacks, but he manages to escape momentarily with Yuji. After Todo lands an incredibly strong hit on Mahito, the episode ends with Mahito releasing a barrage of souls toward them.

This was one of the most anticipated fights of the season, and after seeing the first half of it, it’s easy to see why.

Yuji and Todo were a fan-favorite combination in season one, so seeing him come to Yuji’s rescue in season two was definitely a treat. It was also nice to see the Mechamaru storyline wasn’t over. If this is where it ends, I appreciate the closure he got after contributing so much to the beginning of the season.
