The perfect continuation to Episode 20 that stands independently without losing momentum.
Most characters would give up after the series of tough back-to-back losses Yuji suffered on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 recently, but with Todo’s help in the last episode, they were able to hold their own against Mahito. Still, things will only get harder in Episode 21, as Mahito shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. While fans know that Yuji and Todo can be a dangerous combination, here’s hoping they have enough power to finally defeat Mahito before the end of the season.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 21 Recap
The episode opens with Todo and Yuji dodging several of Mahito’s curses. As they do, Mahito yells to Yuji, telling him this will be the last time they curse one another.
Yuji and Todo struggle to land a clean blow on Mahito, who continues to split his body into more and more parts. He then releases a transfigured human to distract Todo as he focuses on Yuji. As Todo defeats the first transfigured human, two more appear.
With Todo gone, Mahito throws everything he has at Yuji. Yuji responds the same, using his strength to throw building debris as he makes his way toward Mahito. After exchanging multiple blows, Mahito throws Yuji several blocks, only to find him reunited with Todo when he catches up.
In an attempt to take Todo out, Mahito expands his domain for 0.2 seconds, but Todo activates his simple domain. At the same time, Yuji races toward Mahito in hopes of exorcising him. Suddenly, Todo’s arm begins to transform, but he chops it off before Mahito has the chance to affect him fully.
As his necklace breaks, Todo finds himself inspired as he lands numerous blows on Mahito. He then claps Mahito’s hand, switching spots with Yuji, who punches Mahito with Black Flash.
What does Mahito transform into?
Saying he has finally realized the true shape and essence of his soul, Mahito transforms into his final form, called Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing. This form not only changes Mahito’s appearance but also grants him much great power as well. It can only be achieved upon the discovery of one’s true soul.
Yuji and Mahito race toward each other, engaging in another bout of hand-to-hand combat. Yuji finds this new form’s body is even stronger than before.
Despite seeming to be at their limits, Yuji and Mahito continue fighting with more energy than ever. Suddenly, Todo appears and tricks Mahito into thinking he still has the ability to clap with one hand. Mahito anticipates the switch, only to realize he’s been tricked as he’s hit with another one of Yuji’s Black Flash attacks.
How does Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 21 end?
Mahito attempts to continue fighting, only to realize his stock of transfigured humans is out. Yuji assures Mahito that he will kill him no matter how many times he is reborn. The curse runs away in fear, only to fall and break his ankle.
As Mahito attempts to crawl away, Geto appears and asks if he should save him.
With only a few episodes left, it seems Jujutsu Kaisen plans to end this season with the same level of quality it came in with. I didn’t think much could top the Gojo’s Past Arc, but this battle with Mahito has been executed quite well thus far.
Yuji’s growth as a sorcerer was evident in this episode, with hints of just how much control he’s gained over his abilities presenting themselves in battle. It was a nice touch to see the progress naturally as opposed to having it pointed out to us during a training episode or something later.
With the way things are heating up, I’m starting to wish there were more episodes left in the season. I’m curious to see how the last few episodes wrap things up when it almost feels like the action is just getting started again.
