Summary
The sixth episode delivers a surprising turn much earlier than expected, ramping up the character drama.
Episode 6 of My Demon is full of surprises, but a big one in particular. In a sudden, unexpected development, Gu-won and Do-hee tie the knot, which hardly seemed to be on the cards in Episode 5. Of course, this is a contractual wedding, so it’s not like a great deal of effort is being put into it, but it’s increasingly clear that both parties are way more into the other than they’re willing to let on, so there’s presumably only more excitement to follow from here. Otherwise, it’s hard to fault the drama, pace, or development of this episode and Season 1 overall.
There are still plenty of questions lingering over everything too, so even on a plot and worldbuilding level it still feels like we’ve only seen a glimmer of what My Demon ultimately has in store across its entire run.
My Demon Season 1 Episode 6 Recap
Anyway, we all remember the cliffhanger, so let’s pick up from there. Gu-won arrives in the nick of time to save Do-hee, although it’s not exactly a stylish rescue. The stalker swiping his knife around sends both Gu-won and Do-hee tumbling off her building, and it’s only the demon powers that save them. Still, whatever works.
Gu-won and Do-hee, along with Seok-hoon, who also responded to the emergency SOS text, realize that the killer has been utilizing different masks, which is why Gu-won hasn’t been able to use his powers to identify him. Lest we forget, though, that Gu-won and Seok-hoon unofficially remain love rivals, so there’s a degree of cattiness here that is quite amusing.
Who proposes to Do-hee?
The cattiness really reaches fever pitch when both men propose to Do-hee – ostensibly to allow her to become chairwoman and thus “save” her, but clearly with ulterior motives. Seok-hook asks first; Gu-won second. Do-hee, understandably, needs some time to think about it.
Gu-won remains a little emotionally juvenile for my tastes. He’s irritated that he wasn’t answered straight away – as though this isn’t a pretty major decision! – and, like in the previous episode, he’s jealous of Seok-hoon.
Who does Do-hee choose?
And yet, it’s never really in doubt that Do-hee is going to choose him of the two potential suitors, even if their tying the knot in this episode is a development coming a little earlier than most people anticipated.
And tie the knot they do! With Seok-hoon assured that Gu-won isn’t needlessly playing with Do-hee’s feelings, he seems okay to concede. Do-hee smugly tells everyone at the Mirae Group she intends to get hitched the very next day, and that’s exactly what she does.
Not that it’s a typical wedding. Gu-won might have pushed the boat out by revealing that the reason he’s proposing after his initial rejection is because he doesn’t want to see Do-hee die, but neither of them is pretending that this is anything other than a purely self-serving arrangement. They agree to dissolve the marriage after they’ve both gotten what they want from the union. But Gu-won’s continuing jealousy over Seok-hoon gives away that there’s much more to it than he’s letting on.
Married life between the two is immediately awkward. There’s a physical and emotional distance between them but also – particularly on Gu-won’s part – an obvious attraction. However, like all marriages, things quickly build to a disagreement. Gu-won wants to lounge around after the wedding, but Do-hee wants to investigate Do-gyeong. Again, like in all marriages, the wife ends up getting her way.
How does My Demon Season 1 Episode 6 end?
Do-hee and Gu-won spend the day tailing Do-gyeong, who has an enormous penchant for violence, almost choking someone to death in his dojo for no reason at all other than his bloodlust. They eventually follow him to the dead drop storage area, proving that he was the one in contact with the killer. However, he gets the sense that he’s being followed.
With Gu-won and Do-hee hiding in a photo booth, and Gu-won’s powers suddenly not working – because of the subway? – they turn to desperate measures. Gu-won plants a kiss on Do-hee, which is where the episode ends.
