Will there be a Joe Pickett Season 3 on Paramount+?

Joe Pickett Season 3 is a no-go at Paramount+. The neo-western has been canceled after two seasons, mostly due to banal corporate reasons. The first two seasons of the well-liked show, adapted from the novels by C.J. Box about a game warden in the rural town of Saddlestring, Wyoming, will remain on Paramount+ for the time being.

Joe and Marybeth Pickett returned to deal with the aftermath of Season 1 in the sophomore outing of the popular Paramount+ series. Throughout Joe Pickett Season 2, a serial killer was on the loose, trying to wreak havoc in Saddlestring while Joe struggled to deal with his emotions. Each episode built on the previous, providing that rare thing where the second season exceeded the first.

The emotional depth that the writers of Joe Pickett create is impressive. They did a great job of juggling several different stories in season two without taking away from any of them. Michael Dorman and Julianna Guill‘s chemistry as our leads, Joe and Marybeth, is the most significant reason this show works so well. Even when these two are butting heads in their personal lives, they match up well to solve who the Saddlestring Serial Killer is.

Joe Pickett Season 3 Renewal Status

Joe Pickett has been canceled after two seasons. While those two seasons will remain available to stream on Paramount+, there will be no more seasons unless the show is picked up by another network down the line.

Why was Joe Pickett canceled?

While some have cited poorer-than-expected viewership as a reason for the cancellation, however it seems the real reason is much more mundane.

The show was originally commissioned by Spectrum Originals in early 2021. However, in August 2022, Charter Communications announced that it would be phasing out Spectrum Originals and moving away from the original scripted series space. This came after the news that Katherine Pope — head of Spectrum Originals — had left the company to take over Sony Pictures Television. It seems Joe Pickett was one of the scripted casualties stemming from this string of developments.

Could Joe Pickett continue elsewhere?

For the time being, given the show was produced by Paramount Television Studios, Paramount+ own the rights and will continue streaming the first two seasons. However, these things are not indefinite, and there’s a chance that down the line another network could pick up the story and run with it.

Joe Pickett is based on C.J. Box’s book series of the same name, which is 22 novels deep. So the creators won’t have a hard time looking for places to write these characters’ storylines. Season 2 has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 80% audience score, which are fantastic numbers. Fans enjoy the show a great deal and have been vocal about its cancellation on X, formerly Twitter:

With all this in mind is seems unlikely that fans will settle for the idea that there are no more Joe Pickett stories left to tell. These days, almost any show can secure a revival eventually, but there might be some time to kill in the meantime, and if the show does eventually return, it almost certainly won’t be in the same form.

How many episodes of Joe Pickett are available?

There are currently 20 episodes available for Joe Pickett, all on Paramount’s streaming service.
