Summary

Some exciting events and a last-minute cliffhanger make Episode 7 another engaging outing for My Demon.

Who killed Madam Ju? This remains the big underlying dramatic question of My Demon, which in Episode 7 continued to capably juggle (sort of) romantic quality time and more serious thriller business. While Ju’s immediate family dominates the suspect pool, the police start to angle towards Do-hee, and there’s a welcome cliffhanger ending with Gu-won’s life on the line and a knife in his chest just to keep viewers on tenterhooks – something Season 1 is proving to be quite adept at doing.

In Episode 6, Gu-won and Do-hee had taken the big step of smooching, though admittedly by necessity to avoid being spotted by Do-gyeong. It works, though the two are instead confronted by the mysterious woman who seems to have some knowledge of Gu-won’s powers being on the fritz.

Seok-hoon remains suspicious of Gu-won

There remains some mystery about the wavering efficacy of Gu-won’s demonic powers and he can’t seem to figure it out. Naturally, he blames Do-hee, and their lack of compromise after Bok-gyu arrives with all Gu-won’s things just causes more discord and Gu-won ends up leaving the house with all his stuff. Marital bliss!

In love triangle news, Seok-hoon has rather hilariously decided that Gu-won is a vampire and has pictures to prove it, dating back to the original Sunwol Foundation members, a group within which Gu-won is undeniably present. Do-hee writes off his ageless visage as simply an uncanny resemblance to his great-grandfather, but Seok-hoon isn’t buying it and continues to warn Gu-won about causing any unnecessary harm to Do-hee.

Marital bliss

Anyway, Episode 7 devotes some time to Ga-young, who roams the streets and reminisces about Gu-won having saved her from abusive father when she was young. History repeats itself here when he saves her again from some street creep. Gu-won assures her that his marriage to Do-hee is fake.

But is it? It certainly isn’t looking that way. Gu-won confides in Bok-gyu that he likes having Do-hee close, and while he claims he’s just glad he can keep his tattoo safe, nobody’s buying that as the only reason. But there’s still the problem of his powers to contend with. He theorizes if it might be connected to the recurring dreams about his past, while Bok-gyu wonders if he’s steadily becoming more human and thus more in touch with his emotions. Either way, there’s still a chance he might combust, so he makes the most of his time by sleeping with Do-hee – not like that! – to “recharge” his powers.

Maybe marital life isn’t so bad after all. While these two are cozying up, though, Gwang-chol sneaks into Sunwol, bugs Gu-won’s office, and steals his demon manual.

Reputational damage

The next day, Da-jeong calls to inform Do-hee that there’s some trouble in the company, with a content creator having released a video intimating that Do-hee killed Cheon-sook for her inheritance. Her proposal and marriage to Gu-won are framed as ruthless ambition to be chairwoman, and the story is starting to do the rounds and be picked up by the media.

With the story spiraling out of control, the company’s public image is at risk, and thus shareholders have grounds to vote against Do-hee. Seok-hoon clashes with Gu-won here about here about the best approach – the latter wants to go after whoever started the rumours; the former wants to smooth other the board – but Do-hee has Gu-won teleport her straight to Suk-min.

Suk-min, to his credit, is pretty open about his readiness for war, living up to the moniker of the “devil’s spawn” that Madam Ju gave him. A shot in Do-hee’s direction after she confronts him about a past drunk-driving incident makes the point clear that he isn’t to be trifled with. The stakes are rising by the minute.

When Do-hee and Gu-won threaten the first vlogger he reveals he was anonymously paid in Bitcoin and was driven by a desire to be rich and famous. In a “be careful what you wish for” moment, Gu-won teleports him to a bank vault and threatens to leave him there to become famous for an attempted heist. People like this are easy to strongarm.

Who is arrested for Madam Ju’s murder?

Back at Sunwol, Gu-won discovers that his manual is missing – though has no idea that Gwang-chol is listening in – and immediately suspects Seok-hoon, but Do-hee isn’t having it. The two of them go to watch Ga-young rehearse by Gu-won’s attention turns to another memory from his past of a dancing lady whose face he can never quite make out. Ga-young’s annoyed that he wasn’t paying attention to her, and Gu-won realizes that a painting in the hallway is connected to his memory.

After agreeing to be the leader of the mafia gang from episodes prior, Gu-won heads back to watch Ga-young perform while Do-hee heads home, where is she is surprisingly arrested for Madam Ju’s murder. Of course, Seok-hoon is quickly on the scene to reassure her.

How does My Demon Season 1 Episode 7 end?

Meanwhile, Gwang-chol updates his accomplice – the editing makes it look very much like Do-gyeong, but that might be too obvious/easy at this stage – that Gu-won is a demon. What’s the best way to kill a demon? Well, it seems like the first idea is stabbing. After Gu-won receives a call about Do-hee’s arrest, he rushes outside but is stabbed by Gwang-chol.

Episode 7 of My Demon ends with him bleeding out and saying Do-hee’s name.
