Turkish Netflix thriller Kubra has captured the imagination of viewers with its intriguing premise and mysterious plot, and its ambiguous ending suggests that Season 2 is at least a possibility. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the story of a man being thrust into the position of a prophet thanks to mysterious communications from a seemingly prophetic mobile app has resonated with many already and has heaps of future potential if the appetite is there.

Has Netflix renewed Kubra for Season 2?

Official Renewal Status: TBC

Sadly, there is no divine information to confirm a second season of the show, and at the time of writing Kubra has not been renewed for Season 2.

It is early days and it may just be too early for an announcement. Netflix will be looking carefully at all the data about the show and its viewing patterns before making a decision, so don’t lose hope. However, while the Season 1 ending has a degree of ambiguity to it, it does work as a strong thematic conclusion, and continuing the story may sap some of the power. This would make a continuation less desirable for the creative team.

Kubra also stays close to the source material, and there is no sequel to the book, which also makes us think that the show will be one and done.

How has Kubra performed so far?

Just now IMDb has the show rated at a modest 6.3/10 with some reviewers giving it a very good critique, saying it is a show worth watching, and Decider also gives the show a thumbs up encouraging viewers to stream it.

LeisureByte calls the show “thought-provoking” and praises the performance of the show’s lead Cagatay Ulusoy. Digital Mafia Talkies calls the series “average”.

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, have also praised the series and its lead:

Is Kubra based on a true story?

Kubra is not based on a true story, but it is based on a novel written by Afsim Kum. This is also not the first time that Netflix has adapted the author’s work, as previously they would present viewers with the series Hot Skull which was adapted from the debut novel by Kum titled Sicak Kafa.

Is Hot Skull worth watching?

The sci-fi limited series by the same author was also highly regarded and has another very intriguing premise that you might enjoy if you liked Kubra and are waiting for news of a renewal.

Hot Skull follows Murat Siyavus, a linguist who is the only person in the world who has not been infected by an epidemic that is spread through speech and language. He is on the run from the brutal Anti-Epidemic Institution trying to survive in a world thrown into turmoil and chaos, while trying to figure out why he is the only person immune to the disease. It has a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb and has received some great reviews.
