Summary

“Mutiny” centers on one major shift in character for our titular lead. This change in behavior feels a little out of character for Griselda though as the series enters even darker terrain. Despite this slight niggle, Griselda remains a fascinating character study, as the housewife transforms into a ruthless drug lord.

Griselda jumps forward in time in Season 1 Episode 3, “Mutiny.” We pick up with Griselda, who is now thriving in Miami, Florida, but a few terrible choices lead her into rather dark terrain as she risks losing everything she has worked so hard for. It’s a darker installment on the whole, yet one that still retains the show’s overall energy and tone.

The timeline may have only moved forwards 3 months but Griselda has already completely changed her life around and accomplished so much in that short period. We find her living in a large, lavish house with her employees and family, spending money with apparent ease. She’s even known as the Godmother in the trade now thanks to her quick success.

Griselda is now sleeping with Dario too, who has become her new bodyguard and he warns her about the growing violence between the rival gangs in the city. The famous Colombian cartel family, the Ochoas, are also interested in buying out Griselda’s operation amidst all this chaos.

Who is Rafa Salazar?

They fly out to the Bahamas to meet with the supplier Rafa Salazar, who works with the Ochoas. He shows them his warehouse filled with drugs. Rafa offers Griselda $15 million to hand over her operation to the Ochoas cartel. German Panesso is desperate for Griselda to accept this offer as well, but she turns them down.

Griselda believes that they can make more money if they continue their business alone. German is angered by Griselda’s shortsightedness though, thinking that they will now struggle to compete with the ruthless Ochoas. Griselda offers German 25% of her takings if he is to stay as her partner. German accepts this generous offer.

At the same time, June and Jensen are investigating another drug-related murder in Miami, one that may involve Amilcar. June interviews a witness, who accidentally mentions the name El Loco, Amilcar’s nickname. June suggests getting fingerprints from the top of the car due to the details that the witness has given. Jensen is against this strategy at first, but later relents.

Why does Amilcar accept the Ochoas’ offer?

After rejecting Rafa’s offer, Griselda meets with all the main drug dealers in Miami. She asks them all to decline Rafa’s buyout offers, to work together to compete with the Ochoas instead. Everyone agrees with Griselda except for Papo and Rivi, who is there on Amilcar’s behalf. Papo refuses to let Griselda take charge, whilst Rivi announces that Amilcar will be accepting the Ochoas’ buyout. Amilcar has too much heat on him due to the latest police investigation and is happy to escape Florida for good with the money.

Griselda asks to speak with Amilcar in private, but he refuses to change his mind. He wants to run away from this murder conviction. Griselda suggests killing the witness so that they can continue to work together, against the Ochoas. Amilcar is interested in Griselda’s latest offer. He accepts her terms.

It’s one rather major leap in character for Griselda, but she orders Dario and Chucho to kill the innocent key witness for her. The duo turns up at the witness’s home, only to find him with his wife and baby. Dario asks Griselda how they should proceed. Griselda orders the murders anyway. The witness and his wife are then killed. Thankfully the baby is spared.

Amilcar is thankful for this and the case is immediately dropped. Griselda asks to continue her plan, but Amilcar will only proceed if he is put in charge. Griselda is forced to accept yet another setback. She will be pulling the strings from behind the scenes though. Amilcar is able to formulate a new deal with Rafa. They plan to celebrate this new deal with a party at the Mutiny Hotel later that night.

June decides to change job roles, unhappy with her time at homicide. On her last day, she is surprised to discover that her fingerprint suggestion was followed up on and has been a success. The prints were a match with Amilcar’s. They now have enough evidence to get a warrant for his arrest.

Who arrests Amilcar?

The police prepare to arrest Amilcar right away. June is asked to tag along for this historic event. Amilcar and Rivi won’t go down without a fight though and a shootout follows. June chases after Amilcar and arrests the drug dealer herself. The police celebrate June’s arrest that night. June decides to stay in her old job after all.

How does Griselda Season 1 Episode 3 end?

Griselda enters the party and is told about Amilcar’s surprise arrest. German informs Griselda of this latest setback. He has had enough of Griselda and has decided to side with Papo. He’s also taken all of Griselda’s dealers in the process. Griselda feels utterly betrayed, but she still asks to speak with Rafa, desperate to win him over.

Rafa admits that he is intimidated by Griselda and would much rather be in control of these idiots (specifically Papo and German) instead. Griselda and Dario hug one another outside the party. Griselda realizes at that moment that she ordered those deaths for nothing. All her plans have backfired on her terribly.
