Summary
The introduction of Naoki Hayama was played out brilliantly by the writers as we shift the focus to the battle amongst the rival gangs.
In Episode 2 of Tokyo Vice Season 2, Hiroto, and Jake continue to try to stay low. It’s been three months since Tozawa has been seen, and it is ruffling the feathers of the crime families. A new detective has arrived in town and hopes to get Hiroto to work with her to combat crime in the country.
It’s the two-month anniversary of Club Polina’s opening, and things are going great. Samantha gives a speech to the crew about how great of a job they are doing, including their number one girl, Claudine. However, she asks Claudine to follow her to the office and confronts her about why she is stealing from the club. She tells her she is the big draw to the club and is taking her share, and Samantha fires her.
Sato arrives to talk to Samantha for the first time in a long time. After exchanging pleasantries, he informs her that she must hire Claudine back. Samantha tells him no, and even though he attempts to tell her she has no choice, Samantha reminds him that as long as she makes the payments to the boss, it’s her club, and her rules.
With Jake having a few good months at the job, Eimi gives him the choice of his next article. He picks the case where motorcycle crimes are at an all-time high. This leads to him paying a visit to Hiroto, who was punished for his involvement in his fellow detective’s murder. The two talk about Tozawa, but Hiroto says he has gone AWOL.
Who asks Hiroto to work with him?
Detective Nagata has been hired to create a new crime group to combat organized crime. She wants Hiroto on his team with his experience in the city’s crimes. However, he politely turns down the offer to work for her. Later in the episode, after considering the offer, Hiroto accepts.
Jake meets with a man who explains that the motorcycles are like organ donors, with the parts worth more than the bike itself. He gives him a lead on a motorcycle club that meets up. He pays them a visit and attempts to use them for a story in the paper. Although things got rocky, including a physical fight, the group allowed Jake to write a story about them without names.
Jake’s editor tells him to continue to get closer to the motorcycle gang. As a result, we see the gang leader take Jake on a ride to steal a bike. He helps lead a distraction that allows the leader to take the motorcycle and get out of Dodge. He returns to the office and writes his article about what happened. After turning in the article, Misaki calls and asks him to come over. This leads to the two sleeping together.
Hayama, the eldest son, has returned from school, and Ishida has made him second in command, reporting directly to him. Ishida also announces that Sato is back to full strength and will report to Hayama. Tozawa has gone missing, and Ishida wants to know where he might’ve gone.
Hayama begins to go around town and collect money from establishments that Tozawa previously ran. He roughs up a woman and informs her that he will be back for more. She says Tozawa won’t stand for it, and he says he is gone. Sato’s concerns are about retaliation, but Hayama hopes that they strike back.
