Summary
The fifth episode of The Silent Service felt more like filler. Although it has moved some plot points along, it was a little drawn out.
The meeting between the US and Japan sees their alliance start to flare up in Episode 5 of The Silent Service Season One – The Battle of Toyko Bay. With things heating up in the board room, the battlefield becomes a game of who will make the first move. The back half of the season starts strong with explosive moments on and off the battlefield.
What are the three demands from the US to Japan?
The U.S. makes three demands of Japan. First, Project Seabat will be halted immediately, and there will be no record of a deal between the countries. Second, Japan will accept liability for the damages caused to the US by Kaieda. Finally, the US has the discretionary right to deal with Seabat.
What is Japan’s response to the US demands?
The Prime Minister says that the Japanese Government’s stance is that they do not see responsibility for the compensation. Additionally, the crew of Seabat will face judgment under Japanese law. Furthermore, Secretary Wataru states that if Japanese citizens are threatened, they are prepared to take action against the US Government.
The President questions why they are helping aid the Seabat with the Tatsunami. The Prime Minister explains that they are using it to ensure Sebat is not left isolated so a peaceful resolution can be made. Secretary Wataru says they can’t be sure that Seabat doesn’t have an atomic bomb. As a result, Japan is willing to consider working with Seabat. After a heated back and forth, the Prime Minister offers to pull back his Fleet if the US does as well, but the President disagrees.
Why did the US Navy shoot missiles into the water?
On the battlefield, the Ronald Reagan is heading into the battle to help the 3rd Fleet. Both military teams sit back and wait for the other to make a move. A giant whale is in the middle of the battlefield, and the Navy decides to shoot at it to get it out of the way, but Kaieda uses it to his advantage that the US fired at Japan first.
Someone rushes to inform the Prime Minister and Secretary Wataru that the 3rd Fleet has fired the first shot. Kaieda sent a message to the Prime Minister, wanting to know Japan’s intentions. Kaieda announces that we judge the previous missile attack to be a flagrant violation of terrorism by America. He tells them to prepare tomahawk missiles one and two. It works out in their favor.
As talks between the President and Prime Minister break off, Kaieda’s next move is to take out the 3rd Fleet’s flagship, Abraham Lincoln. However, as he tells them to prepare the torpedoes, a ship is coming at them, and it’s the Tatsunami. The Tatsunami seems ready for battle. It didn’t stop Kaieda from launching the missiles, landing a direct hit on the Abraham Lincoln and sinking it.
The President is informed that the Abraham Lincoln has been sunk. He speaks up, saying they have underestimated Kaieda and must rethink their strategy moving forward. The Prime Minister is meeting with Secretary Wataru and asks him if Shiro Kaieda is worth putting their faith in.
