When Mack and her friends plot to get Nick to formally date Mack in Players (2024), she tends to focus on just chasing him and manipulating him. This is where her idea of relationships falters because you can’t use the same “one-night” ploys to get someone to commit to you fully. The issues in this plan come to the fore in the movie’s predictably happy ending, which sees Mack realize who she’s truly meant to be with — and it’s someone who was there all along.
Players (2024) Ending Explained
Mack doesn’t realize the flaws in her approach until Adam points them out to her in one of the best scenes of the film. At one Gala for their local paper, Nick wins an award, and Mack asks him to read her very emotional article that she wants to hand in for a feature. Mack gets the article back from Nick, and he has completely rewritten it. Mack has her pride crushed and her heart broken because it was such a personal piece for her to write, and Nick not liking it equals him not liking who she is.
Mack tells Adam, who gets so angry that he tells her straight that this relationship won’t work if Nick completely discredited such a personal speech. This is when Mack’s relationship with Adam and Nick is put to the test.
Do Nick and Mack end up together?
After the Gala Mack heads back to Nick’s house and she decides to ask him about the article. Unfortunately for Mack, Nick goes on to say that he absolutely hated the piece, and that makes things worse. She says that her piece was so personal to her because of her parents and it’s like he doesn’t even understand her. Mack is a very emotional person and loves life whereas Nick is reserved and sees things differently. He is too high-strung for Mack and she realizes that during this conversation. She needs someone who is laid back and grounded.
After some very hurtful words being exchanged Mack breaks up with Nick and understands the mistakes that she made.
Who does Mack end up with?
If you are a rom-com lover, you already know who Mack ends up with. But if you’re not as invested in the subgenre, you won’t even realize it’s happening. From the very beginning, Mack and Adam have a different friendship. Adam walks Mack home, he believes in her career more than anyone else, and he keeps his new girlfriend under wraps from the rest of the friend group. He didn’t want to say anything about her which ended up hurting their relationship. The chemistry between Rodriguez and Wayans Jr. was perfect and that’s why the underlying romantic aspect of Mack and Adam’s relationship showed up in every interaction between them.
After their massive argument at the Gala, the rest of their friends find Adam’s girlfriend making out with someone at a bar. Mack being his good friend confronts her. Adam’s “ex-girlfriend” says that they broke up right after the brunch they went to together because she saw how much Adam is actually in love with Mack. Even though Mack is in disbelief, her friends expose Adam and they tell her that Adam has been in love with her since they went to college together.
How does Players (2024) end?
In the end, Mack pulls the final play to get Adam in a very special spot outside of the stadium they both love. This spot holds a lot of meaning with Mack because of her parents and she ends up expressing how she feels about Adam. You can tell that the love is genuine and this final moment shared between them is pure rom-com magic. Mack does end up with Adam and it makes the most sense.
