Summary
With more monsters and danger than ever, this episode is captivating from start to finish. Yet, it still finds the time to subtly develop Senshi and even the side characters as well.
Despite a fairly dangerous encounter with a Mimic in Episode 6, Chilchuck survived long enough to make it to Episode 7 of Netflix’s newest fantasy series, Delicious in Dungeon. With their party intact and food in their stomachs, Laios’s party can now continue their journey to the fourth floor of the Dungeon, bringing them one step closer to finding Falin. However, things are never exactly what they seem when it comes to the Dungeon, and there’s always new danger lurking around every corner.
The episode opens with two adventurers stumbling upon the party previously thought to be killed by the Treasure Insects. Realizing they are not dead, just paralyzed, the adventurers revive them, and the party awakens to find all their treasure is gone. They soon run off to try and locate the people who took their belongings.
Laios’ party makes their way to the third floor, which is partially covered by a large body of water. Marcille charms the group so that they can walk across, but Senshi sinks anyway, thanks to the magical insulation provided by his dirty beard. Instead, Senshi summons a Kelpie named Anne to help him cross the water.
Knowing Kelpies are usually very dangerous, Laios insists on not using its help, but Senshi assures him he knows this creature and attempts to ride it anyway.
Once in the water, Anne and Senshi sink to the bottom, where she immediately attacks him. Laios dives in to save him and ends up killing Anne anyway. A bit saddened by the ordeal, Senshi begins to break down Anne’s body for things like meat, while Marcille requests to use the monster’s fat for a project of her own.
Laios spots bodies in the water, so he and Chilchuck go to check on them. They realize it’s the party that was attacked by the Treasure Insects, who have been taken down by Fish Men and Sirens. They pull them out and then use some of the barley they spilled to make lunch.
Marcille makes soap from Anne’s fat and uses it to clean Senshi’s beard, allowing him to walk on water. However, they are attacked by Blade Fish along the way. As they argue about destroying the ecosystem, they are suddenly attacked by a Kraken.
How does Senshi kill the Kraken?
Senshi kills the Kraken by using a Fish Man’s trident to stab it between the eyes. After realizing their weapons are only strong enough to pierce the top layer of skin, he takes a trident and uses what he knows about killing squid to apply the same logic to the Kraken. Marcille assists him by casting the same water-walking spell on the monster so it cannot dive back down.
How does Delicious in Dungeon Season 1, Episode 7 end?
Senshi begins prepping the Kraken for consumption and serves it to the group. However, when Laios, who consumed some raw Kraken, starts to feel sick, Senshi concludes he must’ve caught a parasite that is trying to eat a small hole in his stomach. They decide to rest until it passes.
Thus far, Delicious in Dungeon has been one of the most consistent anime of the Winter 2024 season. However, things got a little more exciting this week, as Episode 7 seemed to put the party in the most danger yet.
Despite being a relatively lighthearted and comedic show, it also manages to be rather heartfelt and serious at times, showing significant depth in its characters. This episode showed more sides to Senshi and Marcille while also exploring their relationship as well. It added new layers to the conflict while also leading toward a satisfying end when the two were able to work together. It shows how well-balanced all of the elements of the show are.
With that said, I’m curious to see if this other party will become important soon, as we’ve seen them multiple times now. With Delicious in Dungeon, it’s becoming clear that no detail or character should ever be overlooked.
