AlRawabi School for Girls hasn’t been renewed for Season 3 yet, but there’s a good chance that Netflix will want to return to the Jordanian all-girls school for another term at least. Season 1 dropped in 2021, while Season 2 debuted on the streaming platform on February 15, 2024. While a three-year gap is fairly substantial, we could hear positive news much before then.
Has AlRawabi School for Girls been renewed for Season 3 on Netflix?
At the time of writing (February 17, 2024) AlRawabi School for Girls has not been officially renewed for Season 3. However, don’t despair, as it is still a little early in the process, and if the show does well you never know there’s a very good chance of a renewal.
What works in the favour of AlRawabi School for Girls is its setting and structure. While the Season 1 ending was ambiguous, Season 2 picked up with a new group of students and only cursorily addressed the events of the first season. This is reminiscent of Spanish mega-hit Elite, which as we know has been running for seven seasons at this point.
IMDb has the show at a respectable 7.1/10 and reviewers have said that the show is well-paced and performed. Chubby Dave on the site rated the show at 9 out of 10 and said: “This story is like Mean Girls whereby a group of popular girls bully other girls but with a Jordanian flavor.”
Decider was also positive about the series urging you to stream it and saying the show “presents an intriguing, universal high school story that’s enhanced by good acting and a well-plotted first episode”. However, by Season 2 of the show, LeisureByte was a little more put off saying the “silly second season is a shell of its former self”.
We gave the second season a solid four stars out of five, though. At the very least it’s much, much better than Elite.
What could Season 3 be about?
As above, AlRawabi School for Girls seems to be mimicking the structure of Elite, which suggests that a potential third season would follow a new cast of characters with some recurring figures and largely tell new stories.
Of course, Season 2 ended with the shocking death of Farah by suicide, which was a tragic culmination of the season’s underlying themes just when it seemed like things were starting to look up for everyone. It is likely that this would be at least addressed in a third season, perhaps in the same manner as Layan’s fate was acknowledged in this season.
It’s also likely that the show would bring certain peripheral characters back in supporting roles, or at least for cameos. Ms. Abeer is a likely shoe-in for this, as is Principal Farida. I’d also suggest that the P.E. teacher could come back for more, since little was done with his character in Season 2.
AlRawabi School for Girls was created and directed by Tima Shomali, and co-written by Shomali, Shirin Kamal, and Islam Alshomali. Tima Showali is one of the showrunners behind the series and was also a director.
Co-creator of the show, Shirin Kamal, is also credited with writing the series.
AlRawabi translates to “The Hills” in English, likely a reference to the exclusive and scenic nature of the school at the heart of the story.
