The Mire: Millennium will be the final season of the popular Polish Netflix series, and there are no plans for Season 4. The final six episodes tied all three seasons of The Mire together, intermingling plot threads and arcs of recurring characters despite each season being set in a different era. It’s a dense and confusing but ultimately conclusive ending, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are no plans for to continue the story further.
Will there be a Season 4 of The Mire?
The Mire will not be renewed for Season 4 and the story concluded with Season 3, subtitled “Millennium”. If it’s any consolation, the show tied up a lot of the storylines over its final six-episode run, and there’s little artistic justification for more.
This final season follows a timeline that spans decades and brings many plot lines and interconnected characters from the previous two seasons together, so every attempt has been made to finish the series satisfactorily. The trailer for the third season confirms that this will indeed be the conclusion to the story.
How have critics and audiences reacted to Season 3
Right here on Ready Steady Cut, we acknowledged that the show may require a refresher course to enjoy, but we rated it 3.5 out of 5, which is pretty positive. Heaven of Horror were also positive about the show, and just like us, they agree that going back and rewatching the previous seasons is advisable.
Decider also advised viewers to stream the show, citing the Polish setting, overall aesthetic, and strong performances as highlights.
How did season 3 end?
There is a lot of ground to cover in the third season of The Mire and we have a full ending explained feature that explores the conclusion in more depth. But here are some bullet points:
- Anna blames herself for Teeresa’s death in a car accident and has distanced herself from Teresa’s daughter Wanda as a result. Wanda became a victim of the people trafficking ring but managed to endure.
- Filip killed his stepfather Kociolek, for reasons going back years. He had witnessed Kociolek murder his mother after she defended herself against a man he had forced her to sleep with.
- Anna and Filip knew each other briefly in childhood, and Anna had bestowed upon him her mother’s expensive necklace as a gift. When the body of Filip’s mother was recovered, she recognized the necklace, allowing her to put two and two together and track Filip down.
- After confessing to killing his stepfather and explaining the reasons why, Filip surrendered himself to the authorities.
- The man Filip’s mother killed gave Kociolek a letter. It was intended for Witold, but never reached him. Kociolek kept it, perhaps as future leverage. The letter was sent by Else Koepke, and at the end of the series, Witold is told by Else’s daughter that she died a couple of years before.
