Valeria Season 4 has been officially confirmed by Netflix, though the streamer has noted that this latest season — which was somewhat unexpected — will be the last.
The Spanish comedy surprised and delighted many when it first appeared on Netflix way back in 2020. The show was based on the series of novels by Elisabet Benavent and followed quite closely the tone and consistency of the books. Rumors spread after the release of Season 3 that the series had been canceled.
The news broke via Netflix’s official Spanish X account:
La queremos para desayunar.
Para comer.
Y para cenar.#ValeriaNetflix tendrá cuarta y última temporada. pic.twitter.com/w4yCCCIx8N— Netflix España (@NetflixES) March 12, 2024
The post, translated into English, reads:
“We want it for breakfast. To eat. And for dinner. #ValeriaNetflix will have a fourth and final season.”
As we had previously reported, the future looked bleak for Valeria, so the fourth season is something of a surprise. News had proliferated that the third season would be the last, but that is no longer the case. With the series of novels the show is based on having four installments, this will allow Maria Lopez Castano and the talented ensemble cast to tell the full scope of the story.
Not only is the fourth season confirmed, but production for it is already underway according to this tweet, which reads:
It will end #ValeriaNetflix , but the 10-minute audios will remain. The fourth and final season has begun filming.
How has Valeria performed for Netflix?
Given the overall performance of Valeria across three seasons, the news about renewal becomes less surprising. According to Netflix Top 10, the show grew in popularity with each release. Season 1 spent a week in the global top 10, Season 2 held a position for three weeks, and the third, most recent season was in the top ten for four weeks.
Despite the third season not hitting the top ten in quite as many countries, the show is especially popular in some key European demographics, including its native Spain, which represents a substantial enough audience for the juice to be worth the squeeze for a final season.
The first season of Valeria debuted on Netflix on May 8, 2020. The second season premiered on August 13, 2021, just over a year later, while the third season was released on June 2, 2023, with the longest gap of almost two years.
With filming of the final season already underway, one doesn’t expect we’d have to wait too long for Valeria Season 4 to debut. If it remains consistent with the previous releases, we should expect it to arrive in Q3 or Q4 of 2024.
